Pretorius’s comeback on track

Andre Pretorius will only miss the Cats’ first two matches of the Vodacom Super 14.

According to Cats CEO Andy Turner, the Bok flyhalf should be ready to play in six weeks time. Pretorius tore ankle ligaments during the Test against Argentina last year and was flown home for surgery.

“Andre will miss the Super 14 games against the Stormers and Chiefs, but will be fit to tour Australia,” Turner told Rapport on Sunday. “After the 2004 and 2005 seasons we had 18 injuries, this year only Andre is injured. That’s all thanks to our new medical team.”

Meanwhile, Springboks Ashwin Willemse and Ricky Janurie will both be ready for the Cats’ Super 14 campaign. Injury has halted the progress of Willemse’s Test career since he was named SA Player of the Year in 2003, while Januarie hurt himself in last year’s Currie Cup after establishing himself as the country’s No 1 scrumhalf during the Tri-Nations.

In another boost to the franchise, former Bok lock Jannes Labuschange returns to the Cats squad after a year on the sidelines.

“It’s wonderful to have Jannes back,” said Turner. “His power in the engine room and his influence on the rest of the team means a lot.”
