Lomu eyes AB return

Jonah Lomu believes he is only getting better after a two month stint with the Cardiff Blues and feels he can make the All Blacks World Cup squad in 2007.

Lomu’s Cardiff were beaten 21-3 by Perpignan in the European Cup on Saturday, but the 30 year-old was still talking up his international prospects.

“I reckon I can (do it),” said Lomu, who is currently playing for Welsh club Cardiff as part of his comeback to competitive rugby union following a life-threatening kidney problem that needed a transplant in July 2004.

“There is no doubt in my mind,” the giant winger added. “I feel I’m getting better each week. I’m taking it step by step, and I feel I’m getting in the right direction.

“For me, there is just a lack of games. I have not played many games so far.”

Lomu, scorer of 37 tries in 66 Tests for the All Blacks, is hoping to convince the New Zealand Rugby Union to give him a NPC contract this year and a Super 14 contract for 2007.
