Rassie rules in Perth
21 Jan 2006
Rassie Erasmus’ Cheetahs have scored a morale-boosting 29-19 win over the Western Force in Perth.
Despite trailing 14-3 early on, the boys from Bloem displayed composure and power upfront to overcome the deficit and cruise to a victory that will hopefully set a precedent.
John Mitchell named a young and inexperienced squad, and thus any statements over the relative weakness of the Force would be misinformed. They will prove a far stronger opponent when the likes of Brendan Cannon, Nathan Sharpe, Scott Fava and Matt Henjak, but that should not detract from the Cheetahs’ triumph.
Victories away from home in the Super 14 are priceless commodities, and the mental win scored today far outweighs the numbers flickering on the scoreboard.
Erasmus’ side beat a bunch of greenhorns, but a win in Australia – no matter the opponent – serves as a very useful memory that will surely be recounted in the months ahead.

I agree that this win was indeed a morale booster for the whole team.
The S14 is going to be very exciting this year.
