Sharks smash Leopards – twice
22 Jan 2006
Sharks coach Dick Muir knows that the purpose of Friday’s run around against the Leopards was to get rid of the rustiness. It was never going to be an indication of the quality of his team, when measured against the 13 other Vodacom Super 14 teams.
Muir, though, would have expected some fight from the visitors. He didn’t get it and the only fight came from the Sharks players who queued to score.
AJ Venter got four tries in his first match in six months as the Sharks scored 14 tries in the 70-5 victory.
And to complete the home team dominance, the second string Sharks scored five tries to two in hammering the Leopards second stringers 25-10.
“Generally I was most impressed with the enthusiasm and skills on display. Everyone played pretty well and we learnt a lot about our depth of exciting talent.”
Muir singled out Scott Mathie as his player of the night. Muir also said he had been impressed by hooker Jody Jenniker, wing Dusty Noble, Solly Tyibilika and Andries Strauss.

I won’t read too much into the result. We should have scored a century againt the Leopards.

Affies first team would have been more of a challenge. This really makes you wonder about the point of these warm up games. What could he possible have learnt from it.

Appalling reporting as always. It was Jacques Botes who scored 4 tries. AJ only got 2.

Sharks for Life!!!! It’s amazing how many have already written the Sharks off…but what they all don’t realise is that the Sharks don’t have a lot of Springboks like Province or the Bulls…not that I’m making any excuses…I have a feeling this year will see the Sharks prevail, and the Stormers sink to new lower levels…
