“I’m ready for a fight!”

“I’m ready for a fight!”

Saru president Brian van Rooyen has vowed to fight off the challenge of Sharks president Oregan Hoskins.

Saru’s presidential elections take place on 24 February, and Hoskins is eager to replace Van Rooyen at the top of SA Rugby.

“There is too much negativity surrounding our rugby,” he told the Cape Times. “Rugby cannot prosper if it is rocked by one scandal after another. My motivation for standing is to do what I can to improve rugby’s image.”

However, Van Rooyen plans to win re-election and stick around for another two years.

“I believe I have done a reasonably good job as president of Saru,” he said. “Reports that I have been asked to leave are factually incorrect. I’ve gone on the campaign trail and I am confident that I have the support of most of the provincial unions. I’m ready for a fight, meneer!”

Van Rooyen also asked his opponts not to use underhand tactics against him.

“Please don’t use devious means,” he said. “Come to the polls on 24 February to oust me. I will not walk or be pushed. I will fight for what I believe is right. Don’t go behind my back. I’m not going to fall over.”

    Don’t use underhanded tactics?

    What? Is he kidding?

Didn’t he do exactly the same thing 2 years ago?

How about improving the image of those poor sharkies down in Durbs first?

“Van Rooyen also asked his opponts not to use underhand tactics against him.”

    LOL

Oh boy, here we go again. If Hoskins become president, does that mean that Durban might be able to host a Tri-nations game instead of a warm-up game against Scotland.

I hope Mr. Hoskins (or anyone honest)wins. However they will have a difficult time defeating Mudguts van Rooyen.

When last did anyone hear off Mr. Markgraaf?? The shake has being to quite of my liking….

  • 18.KSA Shark: Reply to this comment

Markgraaf would be good but he lacks the deplomacy to screw someone and make them think he is doing them a favour. If we can find someone like that then we will have a good leader :-)

  • 19.MysticBoer: Reply to this comment

What “underhand tactics” is he refering to. Looks to me that they are planning to vote him out fair and square – nothing underhand about that.

What’s the low-down on Oregan Hoskins – does he have what it takes or is he just another **** in the wind?

  • 20.KSA Shark: Reply to this comment

Mudguts is just preparing the playing field for later when he says he was undone by “underhand tactics”

In my humble opinion Oregan Hoskins is to new to the top management game to oust Mudguts. On the other hand (Darren)maybe (hopefully) he has been approached by a group and asked to be the spearhead of the attack (I am an eternal conspiracy theorist ;-) )

Rugby writer JJ Harmse of Rapport had an interesting report in yesterdays newspaper.
The quota system for the Super 14 does not help Jake White that much in selecting more non white players for the Springboks.

    Statistics:
    (1) 8 was the minimum and only 8 players were selected per region that gives you a total of 40.
    (2) 31 are backs.
    (3) of the 31 backs, 13 are wings
    (4) 9 are forwards
    (5) 16 had played for the Springboks
    (6) 24 hopefulls to still become Springboks

Mr. Van Rooyen another problem for SA Rugby on the table – Hope you can solve this one as quickly as possible….Time is running out…

Judge King resigned because nobody was co-operating with the enquiry into corporate governance. The presidents council is extremely unlikely to start a new investigation after Kings resignation.
Brian van Rooyen has the audacity to request that nobody uses underhand tactics to oust him.

    Markgraaf, Luyt, Oberholzer, Streuli?

Does the puppet really matter, when we should be worried about who has the strings in the hand?

    Serious question:
Why haven’t we got a vaguely competent person running?

    Possible answer:
Everyone realises SARU is sick to the core, there is so much collusion, back stabbing and allround shafting. You would be dead before you hit the ground…..very sad

  • 34.Mongril: Reply to this comment

Agreed train – problem is with the provincial presidents who sell their soals when the voting starts.

Better method: 1 season ticket at every provincial stadium in SA = 1 vote.

Let the supporters choose the man in charge! We pay his salary at the end of the day!

Nothing depresesses me more than when I see our admin, coaches and general running of sport in SA. The current lot are on a different planet, with the wrong priorities, stupid attitudes and a fundamental lack of professionalim… also some of them are just plain stupid.

Let them complete standard GMAT or SHL tests to demonstrate comprehension and numerical ability.

All jokes aside, the Cheetahs deserved their CC win and all the kudo’s that go with it. I hope that Jake will recognise the brilliance that Rassie uses/used and will utilise his innovativeness for the boks.

As I stated before (under the nick SadSack) – The Bulls WERE the strongest team, but, under the influence of Rassie and co, the Cheetahs had precisely the right gameplan to negate the strengths of the Bulls – in other words, a plan A that worked!!!!!!!! (And no doubt had a plan B too.) All that remains to be seen is whether they can be competitive in the S14. I will be looking forward to our 1st clash.

Craig, I really hope for the Sharks fans sake they do well… If there is any team that should get relegated it should be the cheetahs as they are the new kids on the block… I can’t believe that the Spears are playing next year – they are so kuk… Just watch this space there is going to be a huge court battle at the end of the season. See what happens when you put so much emphasis on transformation?? This is going to backfire coz how the hell can you have the spears in stead of the Sharks, stormers, cheetahs, cats or bulls – its just not right… The players can’t go play for the spears next year as most of them are on 3 year contracts… What a F&&% up….

    OO

I tend to fly under the radar when it comes to singing my teams praises since we were so cruelly dispossesed of the CC trophy. Funny thing is, it’s not the Cheetah fans that are the problem, rather it’s the rest of the fair-weather supporters who gloat that we lost – go figure.

  • 69.stucky: Reply to this comment

but dont we need quotas in our administration as well

  • 70.DEE DAH: Reply to this comment

I agree offside the Cheetahs fans have been magnaminous in victory and defeat, so too have the Bulls. Its the fans of the other teams who don’t get to finals, to be given the chance to lose that ***** the loudest.
I think it only right that I single out most Stormers fans as the torch carriers in this regard. Enjoy your break next season Stormers, probably be good for you as Schalk and co look a bit jaded and in need of rest.

  • 71.Offside: Reply to this comment

    Bigg,

Perhaps relegation is precisely the spure needed to wake under-performing teams up.

As a Gautenger, I support the Bulls and then the Sharks, or at least I used to. Potentially and historically the Natal Union has been probably the most effective of the big 4. In recent times however, they have failed dismally to make a fist of it when playing in the S12. Given that they are (or were) the most financially sound Union of the lot, they had to make something of that and go on to bigger and better things. As things stand, they face possible relegation!!!!

While other unions were buying/developing new talent, what were the Sharks doing???? Sweet bugger-all, which can be seen from the lack of depth in their current squad.

As for the Spears, well we will just have to wait and see – my personal opinion is that we have 2 too many teams in the S14.

We do have quotas in our administration but funnily enough not along colour lines. The structure I believe is thus:-
    3 Village Idiots
    2 Morons
    5 Complete Fuckwitts
    1 Dozy *******
I understand that you can swap a Fuckwitt for a Moron but 1 Dozy ******* will cost you 2 Village Idiots.
Oh yes and all this must be headed by a bloke who has an equal smattering of each quality. So I think SARU have just about got it right.
