Snyman prevents Rose risk

Frans Ludeke will not have to gamble on Earl Rose at 10 in the opening rounds of the Super 14.
The Cats saw both back-up flyhalves Tiaan Snyman and Nel Fourie join Andre Pretorius on the sidelines after they were helped from the field during the Cats’ warm-up fixture against the Bulls at Ellis Park.
The blow necessitated the calling-up of Griffons pivot Andre Hough, with Rose shifting from fullback to flyhalf for the encounter with the Spears.
Ludeke has justifiably been a worried man, neither Hough nor Rose have played flyhalf at a level anywhere close to Super 14.
Speaking to keo.co.za, however, he revealed that there has finally been some good news.
“Tiaan started training today, and he’ll definitely be fit for the first round of the competition,” Ludeke said. “It is a big relief. The news with regards to Nel is not promising, he’s definitely out for the next six months.”
The prolonged absence of Pretorius, now expected to be in the region of four to six games, and the chance that Conrad Jantjes may be forced to miss a large portion of the competition renders Snyman’s fitness imperative to the Cats cause.
With the possibility of Jantjes missing the opening rounds, or even more, with an Achilles injury Rose is the obvious incumbent at fullback.

Rose will fail if he is exposed as first choice no 10.
He needs to be quietly introduced to the game at super 14 level otherwise he will crumble. Good Call FL.

Of what ive seen of snyman last yr i would rather gamble with Rose. Yes he doesnt have experience but he did great for WP last yr and has alot of skill. Ludeke should play him at 10…
Well, in the 1st game vs the Stormers he can play Snyman. Our chances have just increased dramatically as Jorrie and Snyman in the same team. Yipee. No AP, no Jantjes… great news for the Breezes…lol

Hell, I would rather have a Rose or Hough that has not played Super 12 than Snyman. The man doesn’t even look like a rugby player!! But, he is a Lion so he rocks…!!!

I’ve seen Earl Rose play flyhalf at club level, didn’t impress me all that much. He appeared to me as a arrogant little snot. He would stomp on players off the ball and hide behind his forwards if they took exception.
If Ludeke took the gamble and Earl Rose got hit by a big monster like Luaki or Collins what would the fans have said then ?

Methos….he looked pretty useful for WP last season…..he wobbled at times but he is still a lightie ! Synman on the other hand looked to go to pieces when the game got difficult.

Snyman played brilliant rugby as a youngster, but something went wrong somewhere.
This is a very wise decision by Ludeke. The AA brigade will all now sqeal like pigs about discrimination, but if Ludeke would have played him and got injured, they all would have blamed him as a poor coach.

Let me tell you what went wrong. After school the Bulls picked up the kid and he was playing with the big boys. He got his *** handed to him, and never recovered. They pushed him too early. I don’t rate Snyman now, he was good when he was in Affies, I know his boot was the difference when we played them, awesome kicker. Good lad but….

Rose is small, but he’s full of rugby. Just like younger boetie Jody. Defence in the flyhalf channel at S14 level…dunno about that though. But Snyman…oh no!!! Stormers will be smiling…

Not impressed with Cats quality depth in many positions.There are too many unfit and injury prone players amonst the forwards, while they don’t have quality backup among the halfbacks.
With Hurter absent for the first couple of games, they will depend on Muller( played a couple of games NPC for Auckland) and Bertus Smit ( EP and Griffons) at tigthead )
At no 4 lock they have Labuschagne and Tromp, who both have hardly played any games the past two years (though they have solid backup with Trevor Hall)
But the Cats big problems are in the critical decision making #8, #9 and #10 positions. If you got problems her you’re screwed.
At no 8 they have Russel Winter who has not played for two years either and a one dimensional grafter in Ernst Joubert .
No quality backup for January at #9.If Snyman is the backup at # 10 , the Cats will be negating their one real advantage they do have in this competition, their talented midfielders and fullbacks. Sure he can kick like a mule, but at best he’s average on attack and dreadful on defense
There is also a lack of any real pace men among the outside backs.

Problem is that Snyman at 10 IS A GAMBLE.
Even Peter Grant is better than him.

The Problem with SA team coaches is that they are to conservative. Rose should wear that no.10 jersey for the cats
