Sharks seek Sun City revivial
27 Jan 2006
It may serve as a publicity exercise more than a crucial encounter, but the Sharks know that a surprise victory in at least one of their crank-ups against the Bulls will dissuade the many prophets of doom gathering around Absa Stadium.
With the Sharks fielding the weakest squad on paper, the pressure following two poor Currie Cup campaigns and last year’s wooden spoon in the Super 12 is immense.
The continued fitness of key veterans AJ Venter and Percy Montgomery will be critical, as well as fringe performers like Gcobani Bobo and Skipper Badenhorst finding a semblance of form.
The Sharks kick-off the competition with two home encounters with the Chiefs and Cheetahs before departing on their away leg, and two defeats will mean the job of avoiding relegation will be noticably tougher.
The task that is securing a good start begins tomorrow. Game one begins at 15h00, game two at 17h00.
The 36 man squad to play the Bulls is:
Forwards:
Jacques Botes, Nico Breedt, Warren Britz, Albert van den Berg, AJ Venter, Brent Moyle, Bismarck du Plessis, Deon Carstens, Jaco Gouws, Braam Immelman, Solly Tyibilika, Johann Muller, Johan Ackermann, Danie Saayman, Skipper Badenhorst, Heinke van der Merwe, Jody Jenneker, Pierre du Toit, Steven Sykes and Daniel Farani
Backs:
JP Pietersen, Dusty Noble, Gcobani Bobo, Andries Strauss, Brett Hennessey, Percy Montgomery, Ruan Pienaar, Greg Goosen, Odwa Ndungane, Grant Rees, Bradley Barritt, Craig Burden, Scott Spedding, Scott Mathie, Sandile Nxumalo and Henno Mentz

Sharks have got nothing no lose….Except perhaps injuries… It will be the bulls supporters who are blushing if they get beaten….
27 Jan 2006, 16:45 pm
Makhulu
Please give me some of that stuff you are smoking the sharkies will never beat the bulls.
27 Jan 2006, 16:54 pm
The US have a better chance of finding Bin Laden than the Sharks coming close to beating the bulls… I cat believe some of the very naive Sharks fans think they have the slightest chance.he he he he he he he…

Like i said before, the winning team here will be the one with least injuries- regardless of the score.

so, the sharks reached the finals in 1996 and 2001. that is a difference of 5 years. in 2000 they were last on the log, they changed coaches and then as mentioned, finalists in 2001.
so, last year they were last on the log, and it has been 5 years since they reached the final and they have just changed coaches.
sharks to reach the final!!!!

But i would recommend the Sharks to go gambling, you have a better chance of winning the jackpot, than beating the Bulls!
27 Jan 2006, 17:29 pm
just as much chance as everyone gave the cats of beating the bulls in the first game last year.
oh, and remember the first bulls game of 2004, it was against the sharks wasn’t it. who won? i cant seem to remember.
27 Jan 2006, 17:46 pm
Stan you talk as if the bulls have already won the S14!
27 Jan 2006, 17:52 pm
yeah sharkinthethames, i remember similar talk from the blue boys before the cc final too.
27 Jan 2006, 17:54 pm
Just their mentality , shame they cant help it;-)
27 Jan 2006, 18:01 pm
well, as sharks fans we are already enduring so much abuse that even if we loose every game it cant really get worse.
i tell you one thing, if it comes to the end of the super 14 and the bulls are in with a shot, i will support them too (as i will with every sa team, unless they are playing the sharks).
27 Jan 2006, 18:04 pm
Stop fooling yourselves guys.
If you have to put money down now, very few of you would put it on the Sharks.
No, we have not won the S14 yet, but we did the best last year, and will propably do so again this year.Very few people will agrue that.

Hey Kners,
Don’t worry boet it’s not that bad, I for one reckon anyone of the SA teams can face the drop.
And these ouens touting the Sharks and Cats for the drop might have to eat a moerse humble pie when it’s infact their team going down…No team is safe here.
Have a cool weekend!
27 Jan 2006, 18:08 pm
Well enjoy it while it lasts Stan…
P.S if i had to put money down now i would put it on the Sharks
27 Jan 2006, 18:11 pm
okay stan except the bulls, so that leaves 4 possibles.
It’s gonna be a dog-fight…take no prisoners kinda of thing.
27 Jan 2006, 18:44 pm
Sharhinthe..
You are very loyal…
27 Jan 2006, 19:10 pm
The team with the least number of injuries win, 100% agree.
I must say however that even with our current injuries, we are looking pretty good, atleast on paper.
27 Jan 2006, 19:15 pm
bloubulsd,
27 Jan 2006, 19:38 pm
where is brent russell?
28 Jan 2006, 17:02 pm
Stan
You are very thick.
End of story.
Have your say
