Cats crush Shark spirits
1 Feb 2006
Dick Muir’s Sharks, having lost to the Bulls, were again whipped on Wednesday night.
New Zealand’s bookies have the Cats as favourites to finish last in the Super 14, but on the evidence of the Sharks warm-up matches, it is the Durban-based outfit that look like propping up the table in a couple of months time.
Even the Sharks website was condemning of the performance with Mike Greenaway writing that the match would only be remembered for the punch-ups and the fact that the Sharks took a step backwards after a spirited performance against the Bulls.
The Cats won the main game at Rustenburg 20-13, despite the Sharks starting well through a Dusty Noble try. But, according to reports, ill-discipline cost the Durbanites and hooker Jody Jenneker’s yellow carding proved crucial.
Greenaway writes that the Cats had scored an early try through flank Cobus Grobbelaar and after lock Hall’s effort, they led 20-10. The only score in the second half was a Percy Montgomery penalty.
In the early game, the Sharks’ Hammerheads beat the Cats 26-14 in what was a battle of the B teams.

But the sharks will remind you that they put out neither an A or a B team. Can’t wait for the real acid test!

At least the Sharks ‘B’ team has won all its games so far.

not happy with the way the Sharks are going … but seriously is 20-13 with a player getting carded who probably won’t play Super 14 getting whipped as reported here.
What’s with the SA sides and fighting??

I hear that Willimse is injured, apperently his hammie. Can any one confirm this???
2 Feb 2006, 07:29 am
Never mind it’s confirmed. They don’t know the extend of the injury. **** can’t he play 1 game and not injure himself????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Keo.
Where is the mention of our 114kg Samoan Winger, Alesana Tuilagi.
Can shed some light on how much change is allowed to be made to the initial squad of 30, during the season?

What do you expect – The writting is already on the wall for the Sharks…

What a load of Bollocks. The acid test starts next week, only then will we have any indication of the real merits of the SA teams.
Haai Naai!

Sounds like we played Cheetah rugby… Get under the skin of the opponents, get them to fight and then play some rugby…
Sad news though about Ashwin…

By the way Keo, pretty sensationalist title for this blog. Hardly a crushing. More like “Cats and Sharks ***** Foot Around”

I dont know whether to look forward to the Chiefs game or not.
2 Feb 2006, 08:39 am
interesting that we play 2 completely mixed sides, any then when we meet the Chiefs, we put together an outfit that hasn’t had any game time TOGETHER, well we are just going to have to hope that everything comes into place
2 Feb 2006, 09:09 am
Eish is Ash injured againn???
2 Feb 2006, 09:23 am
Ig, it is very sad news indeed. I just hope it is not too serious…
What is the minimum time out for a hami?
2 Feb 2006, 09:31 am
Agreeed KC – hope its not serious at all ! I am not sure a couple of weeks – i guess it depends on the severity of the injury.
2 Feb 2006, 10:10 am
Ash is starting to turn into rugby’s Mfuneko Ngam…
2 Feb 2006, 10:15 am
Ag, don’t tell me Ash is down. Heavens sake, when is he ever going to get right?
2 Feb 2006, 10:45 am
He is so injury prone and has not played for so long he needs to be careful, there is competition a knocking at the door. Some already proven, others largely untested.
Nokwe
Jantjies
Chavanga
Benjamin
Habana
The sharks guy, forgot the name.

sharks didnt play 2 equal sides. Only 2 or 3 players in the side that won would have a claim to being 1st choice (at most)
though this may change after the last 2 performances of course.
I posted yesterday that jenneker is always fighting !! He’s talented but will prove a liability if he plays for the sharks. Have to go for the future bok Bismarck DuPlessis at hooker.

sean – I have to concede. No matter how talented a guy is, getting a yellow card is just stupid.
Have your say
