Juries to skipper Sevens Boks
2 Feb 2006
Paul Treu has tasked Fabian Juries with the captaincy of the Sevens Boks as they conclude preparations for the Wellington leg of the IRB Sevens Series.
Regular captain Jaco Pretorius is unavailable due to injury. Super 14 commitments mean Danwell Demas and Kabamba Floors are also absent.
“On the field we will be facing two of the most physical and strong sides – Tonga and Argentina,â€? Treu said from Wellington, reflecting on his side’s upcoming pool matches against Argentina, Tonga and the United States. “Off the field, it’s intimidation. But we are used to it. Tonga, particularly, has a strong following here, with their fans from all over the Southern Pacific. We will take it one game at a time.
“I think we’ll miss Jaco Pretorius, you can’t replace your captain in a week. Also Floors and Demas, but we have some exciting players coming in, we’ve had a good training camp in Pretoria a few weeks ago. They’re all looking forward to the tournament.”
“It’s not easy. If we qualify for the quarters it’ll be either Samoa or New Zealand probably. Samoa are playing so well at the moment and New Zealand will definitely make a step up at their own tournament.â€?

Man, I enjoy 7′s rugby, just wish I knew a bit more about all the players.
You cant go wrong with Fabian as captain, he leads by example.
Good luck to Paul Treu and his 7′s team.

Ig – I’ll be in LA for the next leg. Any hope of getting press credentials from KEO? I allready have tickets for the weekend, but it would be interesting to get into the press area for the soft seats and video replays. Oh, and I am sure my reports would be timely and relevant 8)
Have your say
