Snyman crucial to Cats chances
3 Feb 2006
Andre Pretorius’ court date on March 8 means that Tiaan Snyman will be the Cats’ first choice 10 for at least the first five weeks of the competition.
The player who looked so out of his depth during last season’s Currie Cup will be tasked with guiding his franchise’s chances in the critical opening six weeks of the tournament. Coach Frans Ludeke has often expressed his faith in Snyman to keo.co.za, but it is delivery on the field and not praise by the coach that Cats supporters seek.
And Snyman has yet to provide that since returning to competitive rugby in last year’s Super 12.
The Cats’ first choice backline, injury and non-availability respected, reads as follows: Conrad Jantjes, Ashwin Willemse, Jaque Fourie, Wayne Julies, Grant Esterhuizen, Snyman, Ricky Januarie.
Read through the names and there’s only player yet to play for the Boks. The player on whose shoulders the heaviest burden will fall.
For all Ludeke’s confidence, it’s undeniable that Snyman’s name will be the first to be circled in opposition team meetings as the vulnerability.
Pretorius’ court date on March 8 means that he can only leave the country on March 9. He thus will only be available, fitness dependant, to play the Crusaders on March 17 in Christchurch.
Ludeke has Earl Rose and Andre Hough as other options in his squad should Snyman implode.

what’s with this lack of flyhalf depth in SA? bulls and cheetahs seem to be the only teams with enough cover

The Sharks probably has the most cover at flyhalf with Butch, Brown, Percy, Russel, Pienaar and Spedding.

Mystic,
Brown – No show yet !
Percy – No flyhalf at all!
Russel – Good utility option !
Pienaar – SCRUMIE !
Spedding – Promising !

I thought that Pretorius said his girlfriend was driving.
What a bullshit story.

snoop,I reckon he just appeared and then got a court date where he will state his case
3 Feb 2006, 07:59 am
Snoop: Pretorius did state that, the juduicial system has a course of action which once an arrest has been made the court must hear the case and make a judgement. Even if it takes 15mins it must still go ahead. Thus Andre is forced to wait it it out. Its called the law.

Snoop
Born a cynic or just became one? What puts you in a position to judge him? Were you there?

Ag… Snyman… what can I say… Please take these words and PLEASE shove them down my trought. I don’t really rate you, at all!!! Now prove me wrong!
3 Feb 2006, 09:03 am
Why can’t andre play until his court date ?! Synman is not even close to AP…..agree grrr don’t rate the man at all.
3 Feb 2006, 09:20 am
The Cop must’ve been a WP supporter and pissed that AP didn’t go to Province last year.

Eeeish, just goes to show the difference between NZ and SA. That Lauaki oke was tried and convicted and let off in about 10 minutes so it would not disrupt his sides S14 preparations.
Old Pretoors is getting the royal shaft.
Anyway, the Cats sure do look like a bloody good side on paper, I don’t see any reason why they can’t preform to their potential.

Ja, StP… My old paper tigers…
But, they still my team so go CATS!!!
3 Feb 2006, 10:35 am
Ig… Andre can’t play till his court date because his ankle is still f**ked.. He wasn’t supposed to be fit until around that time at the earliest anyway…
Agree StP, hope the Cats play to their potential, else its gonna be another long season… :0/

redcard
AP didnt go cos one Carel Du Plessis told him that he wouldnt be the 1st choice 10 at WP. Imagine, behind Kleintjips & Gaffie. bwahahahahahaha
3 Feb 2006, 12:11 pm
yes Ig it is… more serious than 1st thought it would seem
3 Feb 2006, 12:22 pm
StP – its because rugby players get special treeatment in NZ, whereas in SA we’re normally queing up to vilify our stars and bring them back down to earth.
3 Feb 2006, 13:00 pm
snyman is not the solution, cats backs 50% worse without AP, still ash willemse is back. its looking more solid outwide.
i see esterhuizen was chosen over jorrie on the other wing against the sharks, anyone rate how he played?
also noticed that scott spedding is a vaalie, why was he lost to the sharks?

Andre Pretorius doesn’t want to become like Andrew Walker.
Have your say
