Laporte to fry French
6 Feb 2006
French coach Bernard Laporte has made his intentions clear by adding six players to the 22 who disgraced the French jersey in Edinburgh.
The French lost for the first time in a decade to Scotland at Murrayfield and while Laporte has retained the 22 who were on duty, there is plenty of significance in who he has added to the mix.
In come veteran loose-forwards Serge Betsen and Olivier Magne, while hooker Raphel Ibanez also gets a recall.
Among the backs, winger Aurelien Rougerie and centre Damien Traille are fit again and so is lock Pascal Pape.
France plays Ireland in Paris this weekend.

yip, good moves all round, very different team this. Ibanez, Betsen, Rougerie and Traille will all make a big difference.

Valbon was very average in the absence of Jauzion, recalling Traille is a good move. Worst player on the field though was Michalak…couldn’t do anything right. Lets hope it was a once-off…

Michelack looked really out of sorts, mistakes were so costly.
The French will bounce back and put 50 on the Irish

The French have loads of injuries at centre and hence Valbon is about 5th choice – and looked it. Traille will be an improvement, but you are always going to miss a guy like Jauzion. Michalak was carrying an injury and should either not have played or subbed way earlier than he was.
In the forwards, they can should keep the same pack and just hope that they are embarrassed enough to be fired up when they arrive. Ibanez, and Magne won’t give you anything additional. Can’t comment on Betsen as I haven’t seen him since he came back from injury.
