Mr T wants A-team action
6 Feb 2006
Springbok flank Solly Tyibilika is tired of warming the Sharks bench.
Despite earning five Test caps for the Boks over the last two years, and delivering solid performances in every one of them, Tyibilika has been frustrated by a lack of game time at provincial level.
While others may be complaining about burn-out, Mr T is raring to go.
“This season is crucial for me with the World Cup just 18 months away,” he told keo.co.za. “I want to start as many matches for the Sharks as possible this season. I’m feeling really good at the moment. Fitness has never been a problem for me, and I’ve spent a lot of time in the gym.”
Tyibilika is desperate to test himself against the best loosies in the southern hemisphere.
“I’m quite keen to play the Crusaders this year. Richie McCaw is a great player and I’ve never had the opportunity to play against him. I’m also keen to play against guys like Phil Waugh and George Smith.”
While Tyibilika played for the Sharks B-teams in their warm-up matches against the Bulls and Cats, Muir should include the Bok in his starting XV for the match against the Chiefs.

I rate this Guy. I’ve rarely sen him play a bad game. Pity that the Sharks coaches have so little trust in him.
I really hope he gets more game time.
Cheers

so nothing new then
6 Feb 2006, 10:45 am
hope the fools give him some time in the middle

I like the sound of Solly and AJ on the flanks, with Farani at no 8. Britz and/or Botes can come on in the second half to score tons of tries.
6 Feb 2006, 10:47 am
If they do then he can show everybody what he can do where it really counts, ON THE FIELD!
6 Feb 2006, 10:51 am
I thought of maybe having both Britz and Solly starting.
8. Botes
7. Britz
6. Solly
5. Van Den Berg
4. Venter
Muller and Farani on the Bench

x – leaves them a bit short of lineout options.
6 Feb 2006, 10:54 am
The Sharks management have told Solly were his weakness is and what he must do about it, think it was his defense, but I sand to be corrected on this.
He is definitely the quickest flank in the team adn speed we need, but I am not sure how strong he is on the ground.
See that we have 4 samoans in Natal now –pork in banana leaves will be all the rage.

Rob, true.
6 Feb 2006, 10:57 am
Butch will feel right at home amongst the ‘coconut’ tackles
6 Feb 2006, 10:58 am
ktb – who are the four samoans? I only know about 2…
6 Feb 2006, 11:02 am
You gotta feel for this guy….he really needs game time to prove himself and he just doesn’t get it !
6 Feb 2006, 11:09 am
This is exactly where the Spears franchise should come into play … it’s crazy that a player like Solly doesn’t get game time.
If he doesn’t get regular starts, i’d like to see him come play CC for the Spears. He is from here anyway.
And there are many other players in the same situation – SARU get off your arses and make this franchise work
6 Feb 2006, 11:24 am
Maybe he doesn’t get much game time because he is not that good?
6 Feb 2006, 11:25 am
Yea but do you want to go play for a franchise that has no guarenteed future ?
6 Feb 2006, 11:27 am
STP – bit of a catch 22 isn’t it – difficult to prove yourself sitting on the bench.
6 Feb 2006, 11:29 am
I still maintain that Britz is a better flanker and has deserved his starting spot ahead of Solly. Getting on a bit now, though – time to give the new guy a chance.
6 Feb 2006, 11:29 am
This must be Simon’s propaganda article for the day.
…never had a bad game for the Boks,blahblah…..
Against his toughest opposition….at Ellis last season, wasn’t he hauled off after 40 minutes?
6 Feb 2006, 11:31 am

If Simon knew anything about rugby, he would know that the Sharks never played an “A” and a “B” side. **** Muir stated that he wanted to test the full squad so there was no A & B, that’s why Solly, Rees, Albert van den Berg, Britz etc. were in the “B” side?!
Warren Britz is so over the hill it is scary! Sharks opensiders would be 1st: Solly and then 2nd: Botes.
If you ran your eyes down the list of quality opensiders in the S14 you would be reluctant to add Britz to that list, but Solly would be there! He will get game time!
6 Feb 2006, 11:43 am
StP,
A bit unfair on Solly, I was at that game and he made some try saving tackles…. and IMHO was better on the day than Burger… who got on to play for 40min, and got sent off in the 1st min for a high tackle!!
6 Feb 2006, 11:44 am
RobD – thanks, is to late to enter for the Super 14…?? My team will be called the Big G’s keep a look out!!

6 Feb 2006, 12:00 pm

Methos – no password.
6 Feb 2006, 12:13 pm
Always rated Britz but I think he is getting on. Solly’s a decent player, and i believe an asset to the sharks.
ST.P – Davids was utter ****, but I dont think we should draw comparisons between the 2 – Solly has shown he is more than capable, and should be considered good enough to warrant inclusion on merit alone.
Farani at 8, with AJ and Solly at flank would be my starting line-up.
RobD – 2 Tuilagi brothers + Farani. Dont know of a 4th Somoan. Anyone?

he’s probably confusing Tony Brown as a Samoan?
6 Feb 2006, 12:28 pm
No, the fourth is a hooker. Can’t remember his name. Think it was Junior Something……
I read that they are all here to participate in “all levels of Natal rugby” so will be interesting to see how much S14 game time any of them get. Think Tuilagi could definitely add something on the wing……Him and Mentz are good finishers.
6 Feb 2006, 12:37 pm
There are two tuilagis? Holy ****
6 Feb 2006, 12:40 pm
robd.,did you get the smileys info on the Spedding thread?
6 Feb 2006, 12:40 pm
Solly is good enough to make the Bok quota, but he’s not good enough to make the Shawks quota?
Maybe those banana boys selectors should pick a whole bunch of less-talented quota players so that Solly can make it to the A-team? I mean, it is making those Bok caps look a bit silly, isn’t it, even if they are only quota caps.
6 Feb 2006, 12:47 pm

Morning Cackler,
How are the remaining family?
6 Feb 2006, 13:05 pm
Mr T would be great if he could deveop a BA.
Solly is exceptionally fast and fit, but doesn’t seem to like the rough stuff, critical for a smallish loosie. He needs to rip into everything that moves, look to Hill, Betsen or Nyanga, all smallish guys but terriers. Nynaga is a bit different in that he is immensely strong with ball in hand.
agree with robd; britz for sheer effort, was more effective than solly, but Mr T needs to develop some attitude to complement his athletic attributes. rugby is about heart.
6 Feb 2006, 13:06 pm
amen, cab! Amen!
6 Feb 2006, 13:09 pm

A bit of a copy and paste job from last year? In a couple of weeks you’ll probably post “Shimmie tired of warming the bench”
6 Feb 2006, 14:27 pm
… mmm …
6 Feb 2006, 18:11 pm
It sound like the world against Solly, well,,
He was dropped before the test against France in Nov by JW who ‘suddenly’ acknowledged that Solly blows a lot of hot air but did very little useful work at the breakdown phase,,
6 Feb 2006, 18:35 pm
So Sorry Solly,
The Sharks dont have a A-team
6 Feb 2006, 21:30 pm
Redcard
Harsh but good !
6 Feb 2006, 21:54 pm

“I pity da fool”
Keep at it Solly, you are needed.
7 Feb 2006, 07:24 am
Why does Solly wanna play for The Duikers? That is the name of the Natal Sharks A team?Wouldnt it be better to try and play for the Sharks and get Super 14 exposure?Yet another kak article Simon. You are not a writer, give it a rest.
Have your say
