‘Tahs scrap initial idea
6 Feb 2006
The Waratahs will not wear their controversial initialled jerseys in the Super 14.
The ‘Tahs have reluctantly agreed to a Sanzar demand to remove initials from the back of players jerseys.
The NSW team had experimented with initials instead of numbers in a trial game against the Crusaders on Saturday night, which the Waratahs lost 32-30.
NSWRU chief executive Fraser Neill said he was disappointed by the decision but hoped the team would be able to use the initials in non-broadcast matches in the future.
The existing jerseys will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to children’s hospitals.

The biggest problem in Aussie rugby at the moment appears to be a scandal over initials, lucky fuckers!.

The biggest problem in Aussie rugby at the moment is a lack of a decent tight 5 and a brand new coach.
Now thats a mess.

Apparently McKenzie is going to find a new way to revolutionise the game. He is no Macqueen, but full marks for trying.

Cool innovation… but money talks! I think anyway the whole numbers thing is like a ruby “Trademark” and tradition. If a player is mentally bound to a number on his back, get a bloody shrink and hypnotist!

After the Ireland/Italy game SANZAR must have noticed that most refs dont have an “IQ” to write home about so they decided to go back to some identification in line with the going IQ.

Brett Sheehan had the best thing on his back. BS, which in two words explains the whole saga.
Have your say
