Lote back to League?

Lote back to League?

Lote Tuqiri has hinted that he will return to Rugby League following the 2007 World Cup.

Tuqiri made his name in League before switiching to Union in one of the most highly-publicised deals in Australian sporting history.

It seems, however, that despite his immense pay packet Tuqiri is longing for a return to the game he calls his “first passion.”

“I’ll definitely be looking at that avenue once my contract is up with rugby,” Tuqiri told Sydney’s Telegraph newspaper.

“To be honest, it (rugby league) is my first game and my first passion. I had four great years at the Broncos. I was a part of State of Origin and I won a grand final. I certainly miss Origin – those memories get the blood pumping.

“At the moment, I’m very happy at the Waratahs and I’m comfortable in rugby. But it’s not beyond the realms by any means – I would never close the door on rugby league.

“I still speak to the boys at Brisbane. I try to get to their games in Sydney and at home, I’ll sit down and watch them on the box. I won’t deny I have a place in my heart for the Broncos.”

He is using this a negotiating tool, to increase his value when he is off contract. Andrew Johns and Braith Anasta negotiated with the ARU and NSWRU so that the NRL clubs could come up with a lot better offer.

He is missing Brisbane, not the Broncos and can’t really blame him!

Anyway if this is true this may be a glimpse of why the Wallabies are struggling, if one of the highest paid players tell you he is doing it for money not for love…well says it all, does it not!

May be true B15, not sure how he can compare a SOO with say a WC final. If true then there must be something a miss.

Rugby Union has more perks and variety. As Richard Harry said “playing league you see wigan, play union and you see the world.”

in the state of origin he is in a comfort zone as he knows a lot of his team mates from week in, week out club games.

True Brumbie – although i did enjoy watching the Kiwis give a serious drubbing to the Aussies in the WC….was it the WC ?

Guys have you ever watched a SOO?

This is not the week in-week out league competition, it is a best of three series played every year. Players ‘leave’ their professional clubs and go back and play for the state they were born in or the state where they first played the professional game.

It is amazing and intense. I am a union fan but was blown away the first time I saw SOO. And Australia gets incredibly hyped up about it, it is as intense as a union world cup final and every game is played in a jam-packed stadium.

State of Origin is not as good as it used to be. Players behaving like prats in camp and there aren’t as many close games as there were in the 80s and early 90s.

Delek most of Lote’s team mates in the Queensland team were from the Broncos.
