Muir: Why I back Britz

Muir: Why I back Britz

Dick Muir has offered a simple explanation for why he’s favoured Warren Britz over Springbok Solly Tyibilika for Saturday’s Super 14 opener against the Chiefs.

“Warren’s experience was my motivation. He will also fit in better in the planned playing pattern against the Chiefs,” Muir told Beeld.

The Sharks coach dismissed suggestions that he is not acting in the best interests of Springbok rugby.

“I’m not worried that the national selectors will be cross and I’ve discussed this scenario with Jake.

“When I choose my team, I’m colour blind. I do what’s best for the Sharks.”

Hey … Is that why Streauli took the job at the Sharks? … The Sharks probably told him that he will be able to work with **** everyday …

its a long tornement, and many coaches are going to be using the rotation system in there squades, so I’m sure … and really hope, that solly will get his chance …

We will see ****’s thinking after sat nights game. I will watching closely from the stands. I have faith

Fawlty – Glad you have faith in this **** who bends over for Rudolf – any union who has the former bok coach involved, is destined for disaster…

  • 9.Fawlty: Reply to this comment

I guess only time will tell. But look at what the hated Rudolph has organised between us, THE SHARKS and Leicester. Not a bad idea that. I think come monday morning when we all back at work can we really begin judging…

**** knows what he is doing & there is plenty “colour” in his side, it is not about colour as he says. Solly is overrated by a mile, JW caused the &^^%(*)( because he was forced to pick the guy as a BOK, when he clearly is not BOK material so now the sharks sit with the problem.

Dont you find it strange that the CATS/CHEETAS did not wnat him in their squad, he was headed for GRIQUAS & then did an about turn, ending up back at ABSA stadium. We got lumbered with him, beleive me he is no hero, he is an average player and may star in the SPEARS side, cause they got no one.

if you look at the possible chiefs team – you can understand this selection – also, **** has a young backline and would probably play a forward based game – not a bad call.

solly t will get game time.

Your lack of rugby intelligence astounds me sollys work rate is excellent he gets through more tackles in a game than any other bok loosie think he is an excellent player. I do though think britz is perhaps better at the breakdown which is probably why solly isnt playing. I dont think anybody can question muirs commitment to transformation he plays more dev players than any other s14 team bar perhaps the cats.

    Ja fok, soos Putt?

  • 17.robdylan: Reply to this comment

Redox – Solly attempts a lot of tackles. How many of them are actually effective, though? Britz is better at the breakdown too (hell – Britzie was playing a true fetching role before any other flank in SA had even heard of it) but he is also a more effective defender. He doesn’t get bumped off and he takes his man down.

    Ja Rob D,

Britz will have to take a lot of bumps coming from Luaki. Interesting to see the Wildebeest team in the Vodacom Cup…Good looking team…No Solly, he could have got some game time…

  • 19.robdylan: Reply to this comment

Charlie – yeah. Solly in place of Immelman would’ve made that team perfect. I only wish i could watch the game. The Wildebeest will give the Eagles 100 points with that team.

anyone questioning Britz’s selection doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Why should solly be picked ? just cause jake white rates him ?
He has been probably the most dependable Sharks player for the better part of the last decade.
Would have him any day b4 solly !

    mc spyker
what are u talking about chine ? leave out AJ for solly ? too many drugs for you.

Some coaches dont like out and out fetchers. The bulls dont have one, and neither do the cats or sharks. Only stormers and cheetas play with out and out fetchers. **** doesn’t want one in this game and as coach it is his perogative.

People who think its a racist choice are too lazy to think it through and use emotion instead of logic.

Poor old Solly! While I agree that Britz would be more suited for the Chiefs game, imagine what it’s like being Solly with these wild expectations surrounding his every move. I think that even he would admit that he isn’t quite as good as everyone wished he’d be.

Still he’s got plenty of time to improve and Britz has only got a season or two left in him. Bide your time Solly.

  • 23.Viking: Reply to this comment

I think Solly is an excellent player who deserves to be in the starting line-up. By all accounts he appears to be in form if one reads the commentaries from the warm-up matches. Whether he is right for the game plan against the Chiefs is obviously the coach’s call. But I think the debate we are having about whether he is better than Britz is missing the point… the main issue at stake here is WHY ISN’T HE EVEN ON THE BENCH?!

Maybe Muir has a cunning plan to carefully utilise his players and rest them at strategic times during the tournament – but Solly is hardly such a player – he has played little, is dying for a game and if anything needs game time. Not even putting him on the bench can only dent his confidence and waste the talents of a player who could be of great value to the Sharks. I can accept that Muir doesn’t want him in the starting line-up, but what I really want to know is – why isn’t he on the bench!!!?

  • 24.John Bull: Reply to this comment

He’s not on the bench because Farani is bigger, stronger and has more impact in the rucks. Solly is good but I think that Farani is better. It’s not great for SA rugby to have a foreigner playing ahead of Sol but it is in the best interest of the Sharks.

    The geat Solloy debate summarized

    Points in favour

    1. Black is beautiful
    2. One of the fastest loosies and quick to the breakdown
    3. Gives fantastic bleep tests.
    4. High work rate around the field – gets involved in the game
    5. Except for Brent Russel has the best physique in SA rugby

    Points against

    1. There are no official quotas and it is relegation year after all
    2. Is ineffective at the breakdown and does not win many turnovers
    3. Bleep tests and gymn work do not a rugby player make
    4. Tends to go mentally AWOL at times, simply running around like a chicken with no head
    5. Not sure many opponents are slowed down by his physique while they are busy running through and over his weak sideways or from behind tackles. A good loosie like Corne or AJ or Neil Back or Richie Mccaw will tackle straight on.

I reckon **** is probably gonna play Britz for the first 50 minutes and then bring on Solly for the last 30. In rugby today, it is how you use your sub’s effectively.

  • 27.Hobbo: Reply to this comment

Cub…. If you had been paying any attention to the previous comments you’d now that Solly isn’t gonna play in the last 30 because he isn’t on the bench.

Anyway I reckon Keo isn’t too far off, the relative standings of the five South African teams with respect to one another I agree with although I do reckon two sides are going to make it into the top 7. New Zealand is looking stronger than ever though with all five teams, I reckon, making it into the top 9, with three in the semis. I do have a sneaky feeling though that the extra travelling the Australasian teams have to do will work in our favour.

  • 28.Hobbo: Reply to this comment

John Bull, I fully agree. Farani is simply a better player, and this year the sharks can’t still be worrying about the better good for south african rugby. They need to win…

    Yossarian,

Not quick to the break down? I dunno which games u’ve seen him play but thats prob the most inaccurate statement about him i’ve heard today. Also, wtf does a good physique have to do with anything?

Solly will get game time, its gonna be a long tournament. Whether it’s injury forced or rotation policy.

    Go Rudolph!! lol

uh duh , check points in favour number 2.

The comment about his physique was an attempt at humour, but maybe going by your reading skills you’d be best advised not to worry your pretty little head about it.
