Hougi rewarded for caning Cheetahs
14 Feb 2006
Derick Hougaard will again wear 10 when the Bulls play the Brumbies at Loftus in the Vodacom Super 14 this weekend.
Coach Heyneke Meyer praised the pivot, who up until Friday evening in Bloemfontein had yet to rediscover a semblance of the form that took him to the World Cup in 2003.
“I thought he played well against the Cheetahs and his tactical kicking was excellent. I will definitely include him again,” Meyer told Beeld.
“Derick’s form against the Cheetahs was a highlight, and he placed his line kicks well.
“It was also good to see how he attacked the advantage line. I think Derick is on his way back.”
The only concerning aspect of Hougaard’s performance was his place kicking, but Meyer is not worried.
“He and the other players entrusted with kicking duties know they’ve got to work hard on their kicks at goal, but it’s still early in the season and I’m not too worried about that aspect.

I would be worried – 2 out of 6 is not good enough for the Super 14, and you will mind when it costs you four points !

Ig,put your trust in The Meyer of Pretoria. He will deliver.

We might need a quicker flyhalf against Larkie and Giteau!
Steyn gets my vote!

Bloemfontein het skielik n moerse behuisings probleem na Vrydag se wedstryd:
50,000 Vrystaters het baie vinnig weer aarde toe gekom!!!

Ig, was it not 4 out of 8….. still very *****!
Going back to fort loftus will be good!
14 Feb 2006, 09:07 am
Bulle het cheetahs 5 uit die laaste ses keer gewen!
14 Feb 2006, 09:09 am
I think playing Steyn would be like trying to play the French at their own game, it just doesn’t work.
No, Hougies defenitely my man.
14 Feb 2006, 09:14 am
hehe stan nice one!
i also say give hougie a nice long run. all ye of little faith, hougie is back!
14 Feb 2006, 09:19 am
Hougie kicked good for me on Fridaynight. His technical kicking was outstanding. Lets hope he can stay that way when it comes to he big guns
14 Feb 2006, 09:22 am
Besides, who are we mere mortals to argue with the Meyer.
14 Feb 2006, 09:27 am
Our problem is we dont know who to pick. We have the same problem at center, prop, loosies, ag, almost anywhere!
14 Feb 2006, 09:29 am
So many players, so little time, sigh.
14 Feb 2006, 09:31 am
thats funny i never saw Hougaardt attack the advantage line ever. I saw Jean Smith hand him off though
14 Feb 2006, 09:34 am
They won’t make a better move than picking Hougaard again. By mid S14, he’ll have his form of 2002 back, only with more experience and in time for the overseas games. Just give him enough time to build more confidence.
14 Feb 2006, 09:35 am
Hougaard had a very good running game.I also saw Roets flooring Smith, and why didnt he hand off Pakslae or Wasserman?
14 Feb 2006, 09:38 am
I also saw him tackle Daniesaur backwards.
Hougaardt is kak
14 Feb 2006, 09:42 am
The only time when Pakslae was driven back, was they were 3 on 1.
Hougaard is still better then anything the Cape has to offer. How many CC finals has he played and won?
14 Feb 2006, 09:47 am
How many times does he sit in his pocket
Please don’t talk on what happened years ago, we might as well take a trip back to the 80′s then!
Peter Grant will play SA before Hougaardt does again
14 Feb 2006, 09:48 am
Has anyone ever looked at Hougards head/ it looks about as long as the rest of his uper body
got to be a good sign for a kicker
14 Feb 2006, 09:53 am
wls,
Ek gee nie om of sy kop so groot soos n bazaarbrood is nie, net solank hy ons help wen!
Voorkoms beteken niks, net resultate.

Jean Div, wls
We would expect nothing less from you,
One thing I have seen the weekend , Bolla is a must for world cup in France. Who better to send to the kissng capital. I wonder if Barry’s girlfriend was jealous.
14 Feb 2006, 10:50 am
Jean Div,
To compare PG to DG is like comparing a race horse with a donkey!
Anyway the rotational policy will give Morne a run!
14 Feb 2006, 10:52 am
Capebull,
That was classic, especially when we were teasing the Stormers fans bout “Breakback Mountain” nice kiss Bolla……. hahahahaha

The Vodacom Blue Bulls put in an impressive performance in their opening match with a convincing 36-8 win over the Vodacom Cheetahs in Bloemfontein. Leading 10-0 at the break, the Blue Bulls extended their lead via some brilliant sweeping movements resulting in four second-half tries to go with their opening try of the competition in the ninth minute.
The Mighty Elephants scored a surprise 26-17 victory over Vodacom Western Province at the Eastern Province Rugby Union Stadium. The Eastern Cape side showed more commitment and urgency than their Western Cape rivals and fully deserved their hard-fought victory.

This sitting in the pocket, is something you picked up from Joel Stranskey, what a load of rubbish, you have to run out of depth, ask the Cats backline, ask de Waal, reason intercepts
14 Feb 2006, 11:35 am
Stormers has finally found a new team song, Nataniël revived the old Bangles song ” French kissing in the USA” to ” French kissing in the Western Cape”
14 Feb 2006, 11:51 am
Hougaardt doesn’t run. Get it into your thick head.
Hougaardt barely tackles.
Hougaardt is a waste of time
14 Feb 2006, 12:08 pm
Jean Div
If Hougaard is a waste of time, Grant must be a woman!
When will you guys realise that the Bulls are 20% better than any other side in South Africa?
Sharks vs. Chiefs- Chiefs played poorly
Stormers vs. Cats- Some of the Vodacom teams will beat the Cats.
14 Feb 2006, 12:18 pm
I still think Morne is better at 10 than this muppet!
Remember when Hougie was dropped for several games and had a bit of a hard time getting back in with the Bulls after Morne produced the goods.
My only critisicm of Morne is his lekker hair cut, JEEEZ thats a real rock spider look that hey!
14 Feb 2006, 12:24 pm
The only player in the entire bulls backline that i rate is Wynand Olivier. Wait till Hougaardt has another one of his **** games then you want to hang him, we have a flyhalf that tackles and doesn’t need cover from our loose forwards ans who is 20 years old.
14 Feb 2006, 12:33 pm

Ken jy rugby!
Do you imply you don’t rate du Preez, Undongane, Nel, Habana and Roets?
Scary! You probably also don’t rate Carter, O’Driscoll and Michalak on the international scene!
14 Feb 2006, 12:37 pm
I can’t believe you can put names like that those players, Roets is a good currie cup player, Habana is a good finisher, Nel is kak, i personally don’t like du preez, and like the Bulls as much as i like the aussies and that is not much.
14 Feb 2006, 12:44 pm

The fact that you don’t like the Bulls should not cloud your opinion of players. That is, if you have any knowledge of the dynamics of rugby.
“Ken jy rugby?”
I don’t think so!
14 Feb 2006, 13:23 pm
You could get the bulls dancers to put on a bulls jersey and you would say they are class players
14 Feb 2006, 13:45 pm
The most overrated player in SA is Jean Div @ 12.
14 Feb 2006, 14:02 pm
I prefer Derick to Steyn any day.Steyn is supposedly a running flyhave but Ive never seen him make a line break or creating space for his outside backs. At least when Derick is in form u know that he is a points machine with his boot.Steyn is by far the most overrated player in the country. He’s too slow to be a running flyhalve&his kicking is not better than a Peter Grant on a good day.And I dont rate Grants kicking.
14 Feb 2006, 16:12 pm
Jean Div you plonker.
Peter Grant will never be a Springbok. Hougaard will also not make it to a Bok team as long as White is the coach. As a Bulls supporter I don’t have a problem with that.
You however do have a problem Grant is another flash in the pan. 3 good games and now he must be a Springbok, he is *****. Accept it.
Watch rugby for the love of the game, stop talking about a subject that you know nothing about.
Have your say
