Meyer trusts his young Bulls

Heyneke Meyer has not rushed back experience for Friday’s Vodacom Super 14 match against the Brumbies. He’s kept with the youngsters who overpowered the Cheetahs in round one.

Meyer has given props Danie Thiart and Jaco Engels another go and retained young Chilliboy Ralepelle on the bench, with the more experienced tighthead prop Andries Human drafted in among the subs and Springbok Richard Bands still confined to Vodacom Cup duty.

Meyer has named an unchanged team, with Johan Wasserman again preferred to Pedrie Wannenburg on the flank.

Bulls (to play Brumbies) Johan Roets; Akona Ndungane, JP Nel, Wynand Olivier, Bryan Habana; Derick Hougaard, Fourie du Preez (c); Jacques Cronje, Danie Rossouw, Johan Wasserman, Francois van Schouwenburg, Bakkies Botha, Danie Thiart, Kobus van der Walt, Jaco Engels. Reserwes: Chilliboy Ralepelle, Andries Human, Pedrie Wannenburg, Pierre Spies, Heini Adams, Morné Steyn, Riaan van den Bergh

After last weeks away performance I believe Heyneke is right to have so much confidence in this young team.

The confidence should swing both ways.

    Yes,

And the Bulls need both the Stormers and Cats to beat their ANZAC opponents to ease the Bulls road to the final (after the Bulls have taken care of the Stormers and Cats as well).

I reckon the Bulls are going to beat the Brumbies by at least 20. Playing at The Blue Cathedral it’s going to be a huge game.

    Prediction : 42 – 18

Brumbies to get snotted by 20+, considering how they played against the Farce…

Lovely to see the depth in th squad – If we beet them with our “B” team just think what the “A” team can do.

Strange not to see Wessel Roux on the bench, with Andries Human in the starting line-up. Let’s face it, although the young front row were not overpowered by the Cheetahs, they certainly aren’t as awe-inspiring as the Bulls front row of last year.

Andries Human is a veteran that brings a lot of physicality into the team (I love how he clears opposition players off the fringes of the rucks, usually by utilizing a 15 yard run-up!) and Wessel Roux is a Bok after all.

But I am sure Heyneke knows what he is doing.

If the younsters can build their confidence with a win against the Brumbies, it adds even more depth in the latter stages of the tournament, when the likes of Human, Bands, Roux and Gary Botha reclaim their places in the starting line-up.

The Brumbies will be a tough nut to crack, but 20 000 decibals of “Die Blou Bul” tends to change already powerful Bulls players into unstoppable juggernauts for 80 minutes or so.

Looking forward to a great game.

I almost feel sorry for the Brumbies – yeah right.
    Go get ‘em Boys.
Good thinking of HM. Rest Bands, Human and co. for the Really though games like Crusaders and Waratahs and overseas tour.

and we have confidence in our team and coach.
Once again, clever planning by HM. Bands is getting fit, Human on the bench, as he has not fully recovered yet and the time when we will need the big guns is in a few weeks. Not now. The youngsters can only get better and this is a good confidence boost.

Not interested in the score…..just the 5 point bonus win.

The key would be to muscle the Brumbies at the breakdown.Knacker them into the ground.

Bulls need to sort their line out this weekend though, can’t allow that Brumby backline easy first phase attacking ball.Things could end up going pear shaped.

Personally,I’d have Pak Slae and Jaque Cronje running at the Git all afternoon. That oke won’t last the full 80 if that happens.

whats up with wasserman keeping pedrie out?

This pack is gonna be a monster in a year or two. Gonna be more powerful than the pack of the last three seasons.

Engels showed his worth against the Cheetahs and in pre- season. Don’t believe that Roux will be in the squad again unless there is an injury. Engels can also cover hooker. He played hooker for Boland and the Leopards.

Those Brumbies are gonna struggle for oxygen up there.
Why do these ***** insist on basing themselves in Cape Town for a game up at Loftus???!!!!! Are they scared of Pretoria, is it a crime thing, or are they just a bunch of sissies??!!!Hey dont get me wrong if they want to kok things up I welcome it. Go Bulle, smash those tarts!

Agreed, Brumbies do not have a good scrum, we do not need the old hands in the front line yet.
The backs are also looking good, vs previous years.
I finally saw the Cheetah game yesterday and I feel that the score flattered the Cheetahs.
The Bulls just look like a calm team, used to winning and confident that they can beat any team in the Super 14.

They will have their off days but lets hope those won’t be in the final!

Need to get the line outs working however..

    Mackie,
I understand that their sports scientists advise them to base themselves at sea-level and then go to Joburg or Pretoria just before the match in order to counter the effects of altitude.
