Standing up for Snyman

Standing up for Snyman

Frans Ludeke has slammed those criticising his selection of Tiaan Snyman, stating that he has no better options in his squad.

Ludeke, noticably irritable at the continued questioning of Snyman’s credentials – a chorus that has intensified following a horror 80 minutes against the Stormers – provided a simple explanation for why the misfiring pivot has again been handed jersey 10 for the Chiefs encounter.

“I continue to pick Tiaan because there is definitely no better 10 in my squad,” Ludeke told keo.co.za, dismissing the claims of Earl Rose and Andre Hough.

“With Conrad still being sidelined, which we will reassess week by week, Earl is needed at fullback.”

Ludeke explained the reshuffling of his backline, with Ashwin Willemse and Jaque Fourie on the wings and Grant Esterhuizen partnering Wayne Julies in midfield, as nothing more than “horses for courses”.

“I would have made these changes regardless of how we played on Saturday. The Chiefs have big wings who are powerful in the air, and I feel we need to counter that. I still back all of the players in my squad and this is not a knee-jerk reaction to Saturday’s performance.

“We have a long season ahead. We want to turn it around and we will turn it around.”

The oke had 1 bad game – Give him a chance!!!

Esterhuizen looked good when he came on last week, and there really is no need to justify Jorries exclusion only his inclusion !

I just hope you can FL, because the team needs a win before they depart.

Fourie needs to attack on centre – not defend on wing!

    bigg

He was terrible in the cc as well i just dont think he is suited to the modern game in naas botha’s time he probably would have been very good but flyhalfs cant afford to play deep and kick all time and throw in the odd skip pass.

What does ludeke mean rose has to play at fullback why doesnt he drop snyman move rose to flyhalf and play jorrie muller at 15… Oh! now i understand why snyman has simply got to play :)

I agree rugby fan – Fourie will stop teh ball getting to teh wings in the first place – but Ludeke doesn’t think like that.

  • 8.Redox: Reply to this comment

Also what does he mean the chiefs have physical wings they have 2 100Kg centres those okes are alot more physical than sivivatu and the other wing. and secondly esterhuizen isnt a small lad why not play him on the wing and alow fourie to settle in his preferred position for the boks.

What about Jorrie Muller at Flyhalf????

  • 10.JUSM: Reply to this comment

    potent backline that

  • 11.bigg: Reply to this comment

Redox – To be honest I didn’t really take note of him in the Currie Cup probably coz he was so kuk. Ok I take your word for it… Drop him!!!

  • 12.snoop: Reply to this comment

Jorrie will be a devastating Fly half.

What, with hos vision, silky smooth hands and blistering pass, the Lions would be mad not to stick him in there.

Luckily I know you are being sarcastic otherwise you would have gotten you “Dumbass” Sign. Go read on Ruggaworld what that means.

What about Naas Olivier? I’m sure the stormers franchise appreciated the fact the cats didn’t include him in their team.

  • 15.wls: Reply to this comment

So JF wont see a single ball on attack the whole game.

    Hey Methos

Cant find it, but i can just imagine hey.

Think they should just put Earl Rose in at flyhalf.

  • 18.Markotter: Reply to this comment

Bring JF on to 15, and Rose to no 10. Me thinks JF is a better 15 than 14, and he knows the position well, and Rose is a better 10 than Snyman. Tiaan Snyman was outclassed against the stormies, stop denying that Ludeke, you do have better options.

  • 19.DavidSp: Reply to this comment

Well the start was simple. The Cats thought they had AP and Nel Fourie available.

So why try to grab Naas Olivier?

However, if the Chiefs wings are big in the air then surely you don’t play Ashwin Willemse on the wing against them?

Just a thought. If the situation is so desperate, drop Fourie to FB and move Earl Rose into the 10 berth. Then only do you decide who to play on the wing. We have some decent wings that can slot in there, aside from Gus 2.0

There’s Swartbooi and Daniels and Human and Esterhuizen and Willemse.

Why oh why didn’t bladdy Neil De Kock tackle Snyman harder when he broke his own head open…..softie….

    You are wrong David

Nel Fourie is available. Ludeke chose Snyman over Fourie. As for Naas Olivier, even if he isn’t among the top four in the country, he still would’ve played better than Tiaan Snyman.

  • 21.Katsesnor: Reply to this comment

Nel Fourie is not available now – and will not be for some time to come – because of injury.

I believe the problems in the Cat camp has more to do with the Brian Van Rooyen saga (Lions backing his oposition) than with the game itself. I think the Lions are tired of their act in Brian’s Circus and this is affecting the Cats. Van Rooyen sees the Lions (and Cats) as his pets (fed by Labat).

Cats should do what Roger Federer did in tennis…play without a coach. At least they can’t do any worse.

  • 25.CoffeeshopBok;-): Reply to this comment

The cats are out of EXCUSES now, and if it is the BVR saga putting them off their gane then they don’t deserve to be in the S14.
Times up now boys you will be found out.

  • 26.cab: Reply to this comment

this is the acid test on saturday, if they lose their first two matches at home surely that is going to set the tone for the rest of the season.

  • 27.CoffeeshopBok;-): Reply to this comment

cab have to agree, that will pretty much be it for the cats.
Looking at their away fixtures they are in for one torrid tour.

Can you imagine the stink it would cause if the cats are relegated? Imagine a big stadium like ellispark empty . . . while the spears gets nokia`d week after week. Only in SA. But after this weekends` ” performance”, the cats will be relegated deservedly LOL

Tiaan Snyman is not a rugby player. Relegate the Cats now to save more embarresment!

  • 31.Katsesnor: Reply to this comment

It seems that Tiaan Snyman is now being singled-out by fans for the Cats’ failures. The treatment he’s now getting is unfair. The player does not select himself. Who could have predicted that both Pretorius and Nel Fourie would be injured? Who can afford to contract three or more top flyhalves in one team – just in case? If Snyman is willing to absorb the current abuse and stick to his guns he will develop into a great nr 10.

Tiaan Snyman… his record speaks for itself. Not the greatest of S14 debut BUT if he is the class player he is made out to be, he will either sink or swim in the up & coming weeks. as a Shark man, I back him to produce the goods, as 4 the CATS supporters….LOL… bunch of *****’s if u ask me! no loyalty what so ever! …not much of a ROAR!!! -hic-

  • 33.Christian Cain: Reply to this comment

Tiaan Snyman couldn’t develop into a good no 10 if his life depended on it. Can’t pass, can’t run , can’t kick , cant tackle. He should have stuck to accountancy. Maybe he went into self imposed exile because he was **** and got told so by the Bulls staff in 2002 , not because of the alleged favouratism that is rife at Loftus.

This sort of muddled thinking and defending the indefensible is exactly the attitude Ludeke had in 2002 when the Cats finished bottom.Although I think Fourie is a world class centre , I can’t understand why he didn’t get moved to fullback , Esterhuizen to 13 , Julies at second five, Willemse & Human on the wings , Rose at 10 , Ricky at 9, Snyman back to KPMG or which ever other bastion of professional integrity he did his articles at , Jorrie to Gloucster ( they did take Quinton Davids, maybe lightning does strike twice ) and the walking bonus point that is Pietman van Niekerk anywhere but Ellis Park on Friday night

Frans Luddeke is clueless. It is patently obvious that Fourie should be at 15 with Estehuisen at 13 to partner Julies and Rose must be at 10. Willemse and Human on the wings. Snyman was shocking. Ellis Park should change its name to Jurasic Park.
