Murray cops three week ban

Murray cops three week ban

Scott Murray’s red card against Wales has earned him a three week ban and a time out for when Scotland plays England in the Six Nations.

Murray was suspended until March 6, which means he cannot play for his club, Edinburgh, and will miss the Calcutta Cup game at Murrayfield against England on Feb 25.

Murray kicked out a Welsh player after being late tackled. He said he had not intention to kick the player and that his reaction was one of instinct. It was not enough of a defence and he was given three weeks on the sidelines.

Scotland lost the test 28-18 in Cardiff.

Only 3 weeks for kicking a player in the head.

    Great consistency.

Yep, if it was a Springbok it would have been at least 3 months!

Same that Paulse got in Australia when he kicked Al Baxter. Very similar, a little lash with the foot when tackled without the ball.

    Seems harsh to me.

It is harsh when you see it on tape, but the reality is that it was a kick to the bloody head, so whats a ref to do. Tuff titty, its only three weeks. It was a pity the man was sent off, especially cause they were only 20 minutes into the game. I reckon things would have been different and they might have taken Wales.

It was about 10 min into the game – after 20 Scotland were a man down.

I agree it spoilt the game and at Scott was shocked to hear he had kick Gough in the head. He did get the bottom end of the punishment – but I do agree if it had been a SA player it would have been top end of the scale – there does not appear to be any consistency.

It’s a bit like the ref calls – and these do influence the game and as spectators it kills the game for us. There must be a better solution.

Different countries, different penalties. South Africa three months, Home Unions three days, new Zealand a pat on the head!!!

You guys are so keen to play the victim!

Like I said, Breyton got the same punishment, IN AUSTRALIA, for the same offence.

Who says South Africans are paranoid!!?

3 weeks is punishment to fit the crime IMO, its not as if he went out of his way to kick him in the head it was an unfortunate reaction to foul play, we’ve all seen and done it at some point.

If Bakkies or DWB kicked someone on the head (regardless if it is unintended) in Australia or New Zealand what will the punishment be?
