Shock as Ruddock does a runner

Welsh coach Mike Ruddock has resigned for what he cites as personal reasons, only days after his side beat Scotland 28-18 and in the middle of their Six Nations campaign.

Ruddock told www.timesonline.co.uk: “I can confirm I resigned today. It is for family reasons. I would like to thank the Welsh public, players and fans for all their support during my time as coach. It has been an incredible time.”

The hasty decision means that Ruddock’s assistant, Aussie Scott Johnson, takes over the role of head coach until the end of the Six Nations.

Ruddock’s resignation comes just 11 months after he inspired Wales to their first Grand Slam triumph in 27 years.

There are rumours that his resignation has to do with player power and Sonic Henson.

Its a pity. I think they(Wales) could have got quite far in the World Cup with him. Now…. I understand he did it for personal reasons but letting your country down is quite harsh and may hurt him even more in the long run

I hope Scott Johnson doesn’t get the job permanently. He is expected to be the wallabies back coach this year and we have released Alan Gaffney

This is sad news – Wales ‘lost’ the game to Enland with a few bad ref calls – missed a few forward passes etc at critical times. Win over Scotland was a good win but we don’t really know if this was due to Scot Murrey going off. They are in my books still the strongest 6N side.

As for the players stand off this seems to be the main reason – as he was sticking to his comments saying that he would first need game time before being pulled into the team. I think it also to burst the Henson bubble – great palyer but attitude plenty.

So far the top teams (England and France) have not impressed me. England lucky in both games with bad ref calls and France lucky to win 2nd game to Irish giving them a good 20+ pionts.

This is all just before WC so don’t see any teams from the North as a threat – however rugby is played different here. To me the team that may upset is Argentina and lot of their players play in Europe. They may be lucky to play together for two weeks a year so WC will give them more time together and may be a team to upset.

In the WC the French will be a difficult to beat, playing in front of their fans in France. The rest of the NH teams will bow out come the quarter finals.
