Brendan Venter has agreed that Joost van der Westhuizen should not apologise for his comments on the behaviour of Bolla Conradie in the Vodacom Super 14 opener between the Stormers and the Cats.
Writing in his Cape Times column, Venter states that the reaction from the Stormers camp which saw coach Kobus van der Merwe slam Van der Westhuizen and Conradie protest his innocence was unjustified.
“I’d like to air my view on the Bolla Conradie/Joost van der Westhuizen issue,” Venter writes. “The attack by the Stormers on Joost for criticising Bolla does not make sense.
“The entire country could see Bolla swearing at the opposition, and instead of playing it down and acknowledging the fact that he is a role model and should not be using such language on national TV, they try to discredit Joost.
“Hopefully Bolla has learned from this experience and will refrain from using such language again when he’s in the public eye.”
