Cats coach Frans Ludeke received a boost on Wednesday when the Hurricanes confirmed that All Black flanker Jerry Collins is out of their Vodacom Super 14 clash, the first on the road for the Johannesburg side.
Coach Colin Cooper suggested that utility forward Luke Andrews is the likely replacement.
Cooper also suggested to the Kiwi media that the game was one he’d use to rest a number of frontline players, such as flyhalf Jimmy Gopperth.
“I have to show the players we believe in our depth,” Cooper told Wellington’s Dominion-Post newspaper.
“It’s about creating an environment that creates enthusiasm and hopefully keeps us heading in the right direction.”
It won’t be a second string side, however. Conrad Smith’s broken leg has been offset by news that former All Black captain Tana Umaga will take his place in the midfield.
