Keo.co.za has learnt that De Wet Barry has recovered from a niggle that threatened to keep him out of tomorrow’s clash with the Brumbies, but Jean de Villiers remains under an injury cloud.
Stormers management were able to keep the concern over Barry under wraps, as the prospect of all their of their Bok centres – Barry, De Villiers and Marius Joubert – being sidelined was too disruptive to contemplate.
That scenario would have seen a makeshift pairing of Werner Greeff and Gus Theron in the midfield, tasked with containing the elusive Matt Giteau and explosive Stirling Mortlock.
News emerging from the camp, however, is that Barry will lead the side.
“De Wet is fine,” a relieved Kobus van der Merwe told keo.co.za. “There was some doubt surrounding him but he’s recovered fully, which is a big relief for us.”
The news over De Villiers is not as promising, with the star playmaker still borderline a day before the vital Vodacom Super 14 encounter.
“Jean will undergo a test at 1pm. At the moment it’s too close to call, but we will have a final answer this afternoon.”
Keo.co.za will bring you news of De Villiers’ fitness test as it emerges.
