Ireland crush woeful Welsh
26 Feb 2006
Ireland destroyed Wales 31-5 in Dublin to add more misery to the Welshmen’s season.
Ireland, who led 11-5 at halftime, scored three tries to one through David Wallace, Shane Horgan and Peter Stringer.
It was Wales’s first match with caretaker coach Scott Johnson in charge. Johnson, who replaced Mike Ruddock a fortnight ago, leaves for Australia at the end of the competition to take up a position with the Wallabies.
Ruddock, who guided the Welsh to the Six Nations championship and a Grand Slam in 2005, quit following a fallout with players, the Welsh Rugby Union and Johnson.
Wales dominated the opening quarter, scoring in the seventh minute when Matthew Watkins’ chip kick resulted in Mark Jones scoring.
But that was as good as it got for the Welsh and Ireland replied with 31 unanswered points.

Welsh were never consistent in any era although they’ve had some great players. Back to obscurity for them again then!
A good thing about the Welsh though, at least they’d have some passionate response if their tests were moved to Liverpool, unlike us when same horses duffas put a test in Rustenberg.

This match has to go down as the most boring game to date this year. My one collegue actually fell asleep and started snoring halfway through.
