Bones feeling bullish

The bones recorded a third straight four from seven, but were bullied by the boys from Loftus.

Apologies to the Bulls pack for underestimating their ability to be brutal with the visitors from Sydney. You boys were powerhouses for an hour. Then the enforcer Bakkies got the call for an early shower and his other forwards thought they’d join in. Only they still had twenty minutes to play. The win was useful, but the signs are worrying for the bully boys if they only play for an hour when on the road. It won’t be enough to get them wins.

Saturday’s match showed that if you took a Bulls pack and the Waratahs or Brumbies backs, you’d probably have a team capable of beating the All Blacks!

The power was ours. The skill the Aussies. It was the same in Cape Town where the Stormers pack went one better than the Brumbies, but the backs plodded while the Brumbies purred.

We have the forwards to upset the New Zealand and Aussie teams, but we still don’t have the backs to cut them to pieces.

Keo.co.za’s weekly predictions
Week one: 4/7
Week two: 4/7
Week three: 4/7 … the three wrong ones. Brumbies to win, Cheetahs to win and Tahs to win. I know, the latter was a foolish call but it seemed a bloody good one at the time.

Team of the week

15. Monty (Sharks)
there’s still life in them ageing bones
14. Pieters (Cheetahs)
he was courageous in those conditions
13. Nel (Bulls)
big game from a big boy
12. Olivier (Bulls)
in one week he went back from the shithouse to the penthouse
11. Habana (Bulls)
more by default through a lack of options than any brilliance.
10. Hougaard (Bulls)
at home he’s been brilliant in the Bulls pattern

Tough call on Ruan Pienaar, but Ricky took it to the Canes

6. Vosloo (Cats)
Underrated, so it is time to be celebrated.
5. Bekker (Stormers)
i know he plays at four, but it would have been an injustice not to find a place for him. Best game in his Super career.

another big one from Bakkies
