Inspirational Brumbies midfielder Stirling Mortlock could miss the Brumbies first home match of the Vodacom Super 14 against the Cats.
Mortlock was in doubt against the Stormers, but played despite not training all week. It showed in a performance that was average by his standards.
He kicked just the one penalty, missed another and dropped more passes in the match than he did in the previous two matches.
Now coach Laurie Fisher is contemplating giving him a break and picking Joel Wilson at centre.
“Personally, I felt a little bit off during the game but that’s by no means an excuse,” Mortlock said. “That’s something you encounter during the competition. The knee is something we’ll address a little bit more when we get back into Canberra but I’m pretty hopeful there’s not too much damage at all.”
The Cats play the Brumbies in Canberra on Friday at a ground where they’ve never won in the competition and suffered some of their heaviest defeats, including a 64-nil thrashing.
