Jaco ready to storm Super 14

Jaco ready to storm Super 14

Jaco van der Westhuyzen will play in the Vodacom Super 14 as soon as he gets a medical clearance, Springbok coach Jake White confirmed.

White, speaking to Keo.co.za, said that the Japanese-based Bok flyhalf would definitely play the second half of the competition.

“It is very exciting news that he will be available,” said White. “We have to make sure that he is placed in a squad where he will get regular game time that is beneficial to the national cause.”

White said no decision had been made on where Van der Westhuyzen would play, but that it seemed logical to push for his inclusion in the Stormers squad.

“Bolla plays nine and Jean de Villiers plays 12. It would make sense to see Jaco play in that set-up, where he is getting game time with his national teammates. It would help me tremendously if he was playing inside of Jean for a consistent period leading into the national season,” said White, who is hoping to finalise the Van der Westhuyzen situation in the next week.

White, in the past month, has been active in his 2007 World Cup planning. He has conducted workshops with those involved in previous campaigns, regardless of the success of the campaign.

“It is important to get perspective from both sides. We can’t always tap into what worked for a previous squad. We also have to explore why certain things did not work. It was a healthy discussion, but it was only a starting point.

“The World Cup, in many respects, is not won at the World Cup. Successful teams will always take you back 18 months to the planning stages as the basis of their success. I think this is where we have failed ourselves as a nation in previous campaigns. The build-up to the last two World Cups has been dominated by off-the-field issues and disruption. Hopefully, we can get it right in the next 18 months and every decision made in South African rugby is to the benefit of this campaign.

“We need the entire country’s rugby stakeholders pulling for the national cause. The World Cup cannot be won on the basis of input from the national squad and the coaches. It goes beyond that,” said White, who added that he was comfortable the Boks could select 30 players of the highest quality.

“We have depth in our game and a lot of it is playing overseas. The key is to keep them here, but to do that you need a good succession plan in Super 14 and Currie Cup rugby.”

Mmmmm, that’s the best solution for the Boks but is it for the Stormers?
Particularly when you are staring relegation in the eye.

Get all your best players on the park!!!

    9 Bolla
    10 Grant
    11 DeVilliers
    12 DeWet
    13 Joubert
    14 Benjamin
    15 Jaco

  • 7.Ig: Reply to this comment

Be good to see Jaco in black….got to feel for Grant though – he has been solid.

  • 8.valkie: Reply to this comment

Great move Jake!!! Grant will learn a hell of a lot from Jaco.

  • 9.Spook: Reply to this comment

But will Kobus Van de Merwve have national interests at heart, and drop Grant for Jaco, clearly Jake wants Jaco and 10 and not 15.

  • 10.St.Petersburgbok: Reply to this comment

    Spook

If I was Kobus and was given Jaco, I’d take one look at Greeff and say…”Jaco, you’re playing 15 mate”

  • 11.Sampioenman: Reply to this comment

Jaco is the worst flyhalf I have seen in the green in gold after Van Straaten. I don’t know why no-one can see that. His only attribute is rush defense which leads us right back to the uncreative live-of-opponents’-mistakes style rugby.

  • 12.BlueBlood: Reply to this comment

Jake is an idiot. This proves it.A Super14 team from SA will be relegated this year and Jake is playing these games. Forcing a player into a side is sure to cause major disruptions. Teams spend months preparing for the S14,working together, playing together and Jake just shoves someone in there. What a loser. Stay away from Loftus Jake. You’re not welcome.

  • 13.Stan: Reply to this comment

What a waste of a talented player to go and play for the Stormers. He belongs back at the Bulls, but i suppose the others need him more. The Sharks would have been a better call. Better pack and a better pair of scrummies.

  • 14.wpw: Reply to this comment

BlueBlood, how is your hero Jonathan Kaplan doin?

  • 15.Sampioenman: Reply to this comment

I agree with you Stan, then at least we wouldn,t have had to play some kiwi *******.

  • 16.valkie: Reply to this comment

  • 17.Drunkmonkey: Reply to this comment

The invasion from the Bulls into WP

  • 18.wpw: Reply to this comment

Awww, stan , that is so nice of you… we need him more.

stanley, i suppose thats your real name, sure you got bragging rights but you still have a match vs the Stompies at Newlands and the chances of you actually winning is not that great. Ag, thats my opinion anyway…

  • 19.BlueBlood: Reply to this comment

wpw, that primordial ooze is doing nothing luckily. I checked the ref roster up to week 8 of the S14 and he’s not coming anywhere near the Bulls, so our chances are increasing already.

This type of thing gets my gut though. If Jake forces players in where he wants them, for the “national cause”, it makes a mockery of the S14. It means that the S14 is just an ant farm where players are tested or given match parctise. I don’t pay money to watch practise or experiment games. I pay to watch my team kick butt. This comes back to the famous john robbie line of “the score doesn’t matter, let’s try out new combonations”.

If this is the case then Administartors must announce on national television and radio that the upcoming test / S14 game/s are experimental only and then we would know not to spend hundreds of hard earned rands on tickets, sponsors’ products etc.

I pay to see my team win, if the Administrators have other ideas they must be aired before hand in the national media.

  • 20.Sage: Reply to this comment

You’ve got to feel for Jake at this stage. He has to build a team of consistent match winners from the rabble masquerading as professional rugby players in the S14 at the moment.

  • 21.berg_bok: Reply to this comment

The Stormers can’t replace Grant with Jaco as they would be doing away with their first choice goal kicker. I think the Cats need him more anyway. With Julies on his outside and January at nine the same reasons aply as mentioned above by Jake for including him in the Stormers team.

  • 23.wls: Reply to this comment

If there is anything that will get the stormers back on track it is this one.

  • 24.Staal: Reply to this comment

    Ig,

Do something about the language man…. It’s getting more difficult to be part of this site if we keep on with this filth.

    Jaco is a thick ********

and you need him, you need a miracle

  • 26.all_stormers: Reply to this comment

aah so it’s seems Jake is already getting his World Cup team together based on the ‘old’ club and not on performance. If players want to play somewhere else they first need to prove they are up to it by playiing first in VC and CC and not just stepping into the Super 14 – it’s all about bring players thru the ranks. But all the players think they are a super star once they get a contract (Rose brothers are a good e.g and they want to shout the odds – well their playing days have been reduced and long term they suffer so earn the big buck now before all the injuries start to come thru).

With Jake also bringing back Snyman from Leeds when we have plenty of good centre’s show he is looking at set idea’s – the game plan’s of the Super 14 sides all seem the same and are not working so before it’s too late he needs to change his way of thinking.

  • 27.valkie: Reply to this comment

    Stan,

  • 28.billy: Reply to this comment

Jakes planning seems to be miles ahead of any bok coach since Kitch for 95. Rudolf the dumbass was looking for boot camps to kick the **** out of players for the 18 months prior to 2003.

    Valkie

Hey you all read Staals comments – try be nice to each other !

  • 31.munkiboi: Reply to this comment

Stan, what would you do with him at the bulls? I thought you already had 2 springbok quality flyhalves and the best fullabck in SA? And Jaco does not fit your game plan…
    Cats have AP
    sharks – Butch and Tony
Cheetas – de Waal and Bosman
    Stormers – Grant….

I think Jaco going to the Stormers is logical, but then I am a supporter so maybe I am biased. Please convince me of the merits of your argument.

  • 32.all_stormers: Reply to this comment

Billy – his planning is miles ahead but the plan is from 10 years ago that all top team can now read – what has he done for us to make rugby exciting and good to watch – even borring England are playing a better game currently.

  • 33.MJ: Reply to this comment

I still think Butch is our answer at 10, once his over his injuries!

hehe. Did you guys hear Phil Kernns’ (I think it was him) comment about Butch James continuous injury. He piped up: ‘I bet it’s a shoulder injury and not an arm injury…’. Classic stuff :)

  • 36.MJ: Reply to this comment

Valkie, sal jy liewers teen JvW speel of teen Butch?

‘n Vriend van my was so twee weke gelede by ‘n ontbytsessie van Jake White.

  • 38.wpw: Reply to this comment

  • 41.wooden spoon: Reply to this comment

He could go to either Cats or Stormers who both need him just as much.

    Cats
    9. Januarie
    10. Jaco
    12. Julies
    13. Fourie

    Stormers
    9. Bolla
    10. Jaco
    12. JDV
    13.MJ/DWB

Either side would be lucky to have him. I dont buy into this “he’s not good enough” idea. FFS we won a 3nations with him at 10. He’s been there and done it against NZ and OZ opposition. We need to utilise our resources in the best possible way and IMO he is better than both Grant and Snyman.

munki, but thats what i said. The other need him more. But what a waste in the Cape. I thought Grant is the next Bok flyhalf(according to the Spermer supporters anyway)

  • 44.Stan: Reply to this comment

Grant has not managed to find his outside men with passes the whole season so far? Occasionally he misses his whole back line? His tacklng is ordinary and his tactial kicking is not exceptional. And I haven not sen him make a line break yet. If solid means ordinary, then yes, he has been solid. The Keo site seems to be pushing him as The Next Big Thing for some reason, despite all evidence to the contrary. Is he your mate? Even if he is – tell it straight, or you will be doing SA a big injustice…
