South Africa’s five Vodacom Super 14 regions have ganged up on the Southern Spears.
According to rugby365.com, the Bulls, Cats, Cheetahs, Sharks and Stormers are expected to sign the tournament participation agreement very soon, but have succeeded in getting a number of clauses removed from the document.
Christo Ferreira, the GM legal affairs at Saru, confirmed that the following issues have been removed from the agreement:
1. The entrenchment of the Spears in the Super 14 for two years, from 2007
2. The automatic promotion/relegation system involving the lowest finishing SA team and the Spears
3. The drafting of eight players from the relegated team to the Spears
“I expect the franchises to sign soon,” CEO Johan Prinsloo told rugby365. “We removed some issues from the agreement and those issues will be addressed in another forum.”
