Jouba, Jean shore up Stormers
8 Mar 2006
As predicted on keo.co.za, Marius Joubert will start on the wing for the Stormers against the Hurricanes. Jean de Villiers is named at 12, again bracketed with Gus Theron.
After three weeks on the sidelines, De Villiers was deemed 95% fit last weekend but opted out of the Vodacom Super 14 clash with the Highlanders. A week on and he should start, and the bracketing of Theron by Stormers coach Kobus van der Merwe should be more tactical than cautionary.
Positive news is that second rower Andries Bekker is progressing well and should recover sufficiently to replace Henk Eksteen in jersey 5. If not, Eksteen will start with Gerrie Britz remaining on the bench.
Meanwhile Stormers technical director Gary Gold told the Cape Argus that the volume of hate mail the team has received in the last week has been an eye-opener.
Gold said he had been stunned by the “level of abuse in e-mails sent to Newlands as well as private e-mail addresses accusing the team of lacking commitment and playing with no heart.
“Some of these e-mails, faxes and comments on web-sites have been sent at 4am in the morning and are two pages long. That means people have been up in the early hours drafting them, said Gold.

Bwhahahahaha !!! Found this letter on the Stormers website:
“Kobus wanneer gaan jy ophou om spelers se ouderdom te gebruik as verskoning . Hoe oud moet n speler nou wees voordat hy reg is? Julle het so pas nog n ondersteuner verloor. My magtig man gaan julle nou maar so aangaan en dinge aanvaar , of gaan julle probeer met n regruk poging. Julle is kak verby.
n Erg teleurgestelde ondersteuner – Kobus take note , jy gaan Nuweland leegmaak jou voëlvel.”

is G W Bush masquarding as Kobus or anyone else for that matter in the WP/stormers union???
8 Mar 2006, 13:51 pm
Good team by the bulls, interesting to see Spies ahead of Tim Dlulane.
8 Mar 2006, 13:51 pm
e.g. we lost the game beciae they scored more points than us…
8 Mar 2006, 13:52 pm
yes I know almost as bad as my typing apologese but you get the picture right?
8 Mar 2006, 13:54 pm
Rude,
Gotta agree with that bloke on most things, but alas I cannot just turn my back on my team so I will keep supporting the buggers even though I know they will let me down again…
8 Mar 2006, 13:57 pm
8 Mar 2006, 13:58 pm
Valkie
Isn’t it strange that a guy with the name Naas scored the last points for the Stormers ?
8 Mar 2006, 13:59 pm
Poor oke…
40 years supporting WP. He has a right, being pissed of. I have only been a WP supporter for 18 years. But i will stay true to my team. Someday we will taste success again. I was going to the hurricanes game, but i thought i should rather catch up on some reading. Glad though that gus may not be playing.

Message from Mallet on Stormers website:
Last year we shared a vision and plan to put structures in place to ensure Western Province’s success through all age group levels.
We have succeeded in putting in place many of the structures and remain confident that we are on the correct track to produce the required results.
Last year we were open and frank in our assessments. We will win and lose games at all levels. Crucial however is a conviction that we are moving in the right direction. We will remain focused on the objectives formulated at the end of 2005 – nothing has changed – we will remain committed to our newly established structures and young players. The future is important.
At top tier in the Vodacom Stormers, we have an enormously talented young side. Despite having showed their inexperience in their inability to close out two tight games against the Brumbies and Waratahs, there were positives. The performance against the Highlanders was not acceptable at this level and has been addressed. Despite the loss on Saturday, we remain convinced that our chosen solution is the correct one.
Nick Mallett
Director of Rugby
WP Rugby
8 Mar 2006, 13:59 pm
And then he’s supposed to be the technical director…No wonder we looked so clueless on attack or defence.
8 Mar 2006, 14:00 pm
okay…now I am confused.
8 Mar 2006, 14:00 pm
Bullseye
Fok jou. Sê jy dt gus nie ‘n probleem is nie.
8 Mar 2006, 14:00 pm
Conspiracy theory of the year..
Chuck Norris killed KvdM and is now inpersonating him. The CATS hired him to **** up Stormers rugby so they (the CATS) don’t get relegated.
8 Mar 2006, 14:02 pm
Rude, his parents must have mixed feelings (as they are obviously Bulls supporters giving him that name), happy that their boy is playing S14 but sad that its at Province
8 Mar 2006, 14:04 pm
8 Mar 2006, 14:06 pm
bullseye,
‘n paar jaar terug toe die Bulle so kak was, was die meeste huidige bulls ondersteuners Stormers supporters.
8 Mar 2006, 14:07 pm
8 Mar 2006, 14:09 pm
Maybe you use to pathetic rugby but we down here in the Cape is not therefore the outcry. We don’t accept mediocrity.
8 Mar 2006, 14:09 pm
Bokbefok
8 Mar 2006, 14:42 pm
How old is the current stormers team really?
Eddie?
Shimmie?
Brits?
Luke (ok not that old)
Adri?
Skulk? (been playing 3 years of top flight rugby now)
Bolla?
De Wet?
Gus?
Greef?
So who’s the youngsters?
locks?
flyhalf?
wings?
hmmm, would be interesting to see how the age of the teams from the last round of matches compares. Somehow I think the Sharks and Cheetahs also have very young and/or inexperianced side?
8 Mar 2006, 15:18 pm
Why is Eddie in the team. With his excuse of a work rate we can’t win.
8 Mar 2006, 15:25 pm
8 Mar 2006, 15:35 pm
Bernard Loots?
8 Mar 2006, 15:44 pm
Bernard wie…?
8 Mar 2006, 15:49 pm
Wie te fok is Bernard Loots
8 Mar 2006, 16:03 pm
Hey, things are looking up at the Stormers……. because it is f**king flat on its back tight now.
8 Mar 2006, 16:19 pm
What is Adri Badenhorst still doing in that team ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
He is a scared little snotface with no heart, no muscle and no brains, he played 2/3 good games 2 years ago and now hes a Stormer altar boy
8 Mar 2006, 17:01 pm
That’s it guys….the mention of the gasman above is enough for me. My weekend in the mountains is booked – no TV, no Radio, nothing to even remotely remind me of the game they play with that oval ball. Only a dozen bottles of red – just to make sure I don’t sober up enough to think about my beloved team …
8 Mar 2006, 22:32 pm
how much worse can say someone like corne uys or joe pieterson do in place of gus theron…..they got gus in there of defensive but he still misses tackles and he can’t even catch the ball wtf!!!
are n’t their any english clubs interested in his wonderful talents and his professionalism…..
LASTLY….4AM SA TIME COULD BE 6PM SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD…..DUMBASSES…..

I have to agree with a stormer supporter, 1st time ever,
people all over the world use the internet Gary Gold jou dig bliksem, geen wonder julle speel soos julle speel nie.
Sorry so say, but you guys are doomed without Gus.
9 Mar 2006, 20:27 pm
Why is Andrews there? Honestly, he prances around the ruck and tries to look menacing when actually he is trying to catch his breath. Pretending to be good at scrum time is not enough, you have to put in the tackles, especially around the ruck.
Greef is playing a lot beter than people give him credit for.
I do feel for Gus, he is obviously out of his depth and no one is willing to give him the axe. Where did he actually come from? I remember first hearing about him about 4 or 5 years ago, maybe longer. Still, there has to be a better alternative. He must be copping tons of flak, some of it is deserved but a lot must go to the selectors who continue to put him in the team. I have no doubt that he wants to do his best and who knows maybe he is, unfortunately it is not good enough.
Bloubul made a good comment. Look at the Bulls by 2001, they were the laughing stock of SA and the southern hemisphere. Now it is the Stormers and we have to find out the actual solutions to the much greater problem, that is this culture of mediocrity which pervades at Newlands.
I am confident that Mallett has a vision and it would be wise to give him time so that we might see it.
The Stormers need consistancy in selection and communication between players/coaches/administrators. Every year it is the same deal, the Stormers play well in their first game and then everything unravels. That is not good. It is an unhealthy system and it needs to be addressed.
