Tired Elissalde watches from bench
9 Mar 2006
French coach Bernard Laporte has cited fatigue as the reason for Jean-Baptiste Elissalde’s demotion to the bench for Sunday’s Six Nations showdown with England at Twickenham.
Elissalde, one of the architects of France’s win against the Springboks in Paris in November, has not been great in the Six Nations and Laporte said his rotation of scrumhalves was aimed at keeping both fresh.
He said the management felt Elissalde was taking strain and that Dimitri Yachvili was playing well. Yachvili two seasons ago inspired France to victory against the Poms in Paris.
France: 15-Thomas Castaignede; 14-Aurelien Rougerie, 13-Florian Fritz, 12-Damien Traille, 11-Christophe Dominici; 10-Frederic Michalak, 9-Dimitri Yachvili; 8-Thomas Lievremont, 7-Olivier Magne, 6-Yannick Nyanga, 5-Jerome Thion, 4-Fabien Pelous (captain), 3-Pieter de Villiers, 2-Raphael Ibanez, 1-Olivier Milloud. Subs: 16-Dimitri Szarzewski, 17-Sylvain Marconnet, 18-Lionel Nallet, 19-Julien Bonnaire, 20-Jean-Baptiste Elissalde, 21-Ludovic Valbon, 22-Cedric Heymans.

Ja Blueblood, except that he’s no longer eligible for the Boks…
He also seems to be a bit over the hill, compared to his form two seasons ago.
