Samoa sunk as Boks march on
16 Mar 2006
A narrow 12-10 victory over Samoa saw Paul Treu’s Sevens Boks top their group and progress to the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games, despite losing to Tonga in their opening fixture.
An early score by Sharks winger Mzwandile Stick and second half try by Bolander Renfred Dazel were enough to propel the Boks to their second consecutive victory.
Only a conversion separated the sides, as Samoa failed to convert either of their two tries.
The Boks’ victory was down to composure and impressive scrambling defence after Zolani Mofu and Ryan Kankowski both received yellow cards.
The Boks are through to the quarter finals, and will face either Australia or England in the final eight.
BOK COMMONWEALTH RESULTS
Boks 19 Tonga 26
Boks 63 Uganda 7
Boks 12 Samoa 10
