Braid won’t go to Waugh

The Blues will be without specialist openside flanker Daniel Braid for Friday night’s Vodacom Super 14 match against the Waratahs in Sydney.

With Braid still struggling with a hamstring injury, coach David Nucifora has named Angus Macdonald in the No 7 jersey to go head-to-head with Phil Waugh.

Macdonald, a tourist with Graham Henry’s Grand Slam All Blacks last year, is capable of playing all three positions in the loose, as well as the second row, but he has limited experience in the openside role.

The only other change to Nucifora’s starting XV is at inside centre where the unlucky Rua Tipoki drops to the bench to make room for a fit-again Luke McAlister who will no doubt reassume the goal kicking duties.

Blues team to play Waratahs:

15 Isa Nacewa, 14 Vili Waqaseduadua, 13 Anthony Tuitavake, 12 Luke McAlister, 11 Joe Rokocoko, 10 Tasesa Lavea, 9 John Senio; 8 Nick Williams, 7 Angus Macdonald, 6 Troy Flavell, 5 Ali Williams, 4 Greg Rawlinson, 3 John Afoa, 2 Keven Mealamu (c), 1 Tony Woodcock.
Subs: 16 Tim Dow, 17 Saimone Taumoepeau, 18 Anthony Boric, 19 Kurtis Haiu, 20 Junior Poluleuligaga, 21 Rua Tipoki, 22 Brent Ward.
