Cordingley sent home

Wallabies halfback contender Sam Cordingley is on his way back to Brisbane after injuring his foot in the Reds Super 14 loss to the Sharks in Durban at the weekend.

The loss of Cordingley means that the Reds will have to make at least one change to the team that was downed 36-28 for their next match against the Cats at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Josh Valentine, who was on the bench against the Sharks, will probably step into the No 9 jersey, but will have his work cut out against the terrier-like Ricky Januarie and a Cats team fired up to deliver a compelling performance to silence their critics after an unsuccessful overseas tour.

The Reds season has also been a struggling one and although they managed to pick up a valuable bonus point against the Sharks and should not expect any favours from the wounded Cats.

The Reds currently occupy 12th spot on the log (on 8 points), just one ahead of the Cats (5 points). Both teams only have one win under the belt this season. The result on Saturday will do much to define the rest of the season for both sides.
