Poms suffer another blow
4 Apr 2006
South African-born England prop Matt Stevens will be out of action for four to six months after surgery to his right shoulder.
The 23-year-old will miss Bath’s European Cup semi-final against Biarritz this month and England’s two-Test tour of Australia in June.
Stevens, who won the first of his 10 caps against New Zealand in June 2004, played in England’s first two Six Nations games this season before being ruled out of the defeat by Scotland with a shoulder injury.
He returned against France and was named to play against Ireland only to suffer a breakdown in training.

Just how many SA players actually feature in the England squad?

if you read a past column by keo, it seems sa could field an entire world class 22 with all the guys that have left to ply their trade overseas.

England are not short of champion refs it just that SA is short of referees that understand how to ref a scrum.
Please resist in bandying about the term ‘world class’

England team becoming the Multi-national team, taking from all over the commonwealth.

Agree Flatty
They are using players that cannot get a look in back in their respective nations, i.e. Stevens, Abbott, Van Gisbergen and Paul.

StM is right…
there are very few world class players in the Guinness Premiership.
In fact most of them would’nt even be good enough for the Force.

In Fact if it was’nt for the talent in the French league European rugby would be at an all time low…
You just have to look at at the official IRB rankings to recognise the truth.

And where will he go for rehab? Yes folks to Durban where he can live off Dady`s chairman status. After all it was daddy that said to him go where the money is and that was to England. He was offered to stay here but Daddy being the hotshot businessman and “chairman” he is then said no they wont offer us more so F&^% them and go and play for England where you will earn pounds etc. YES SARU did stuff up by letting him go as a u21 prop wiht huge promise but its not all what it seems and what daddy says little or should I say big Matty does.
Greedy buggers! sorry but I think these guys made the mistake of not stayign as he would have been able to make more money by being known as one of the best than one of the many.

Hi St Mick – I noticed you crawled out the wookwokr. I suppose you thought we’d have forgotten the 6 Nations by now?
wls – currently Stuart Abbott and Matt Stevens are in the England squad, Nils Mordt in the 7′s squad.
Other SA’s capped for England in the last 5 years: Catt, Michael Horak, Geoff Appleford and Steve White-Cooper.

Now what are the Poms going to do without their South African imports to keep the team together.

Bladdy English, now they steal our rugby players, they already have 2 SA-born players in their cricket squad!
