In the Juan Smith crib article there are captions for every photo except the one of him holding the fishing rod.

I thought the Player Agent piece was very insightful and interesting to read on what the Bulls Union thinks of them.

And enjoyed Ruben Thorne interview, great player, but one game has ended his All Black career!

    I loved the magazine!!!
the 4 cover idea, i think is really good thinking out of the box.
I enjoy the colomns from rugby players.
The q&a ia also more often than not a good read.
I really enjoy, in any magazine with sport, in depth articles on a player or sport and not just the here and now.
can you maybe have an article on whose who, use stats to show best tackler, line breaker etc.

Great mag.Keep it up!!Would like to see an in depth article on Jake White to see what he has got planned for the nwe season etc.

Is this not the same Stan who got all his jokes from an English website?

    BWAHAHAHAHA

    What a WOS

P.S. WOS = Waste Of Space

Enough about Stan, he is not worth the effort.

Boyz, the mag is gr8! It would be nice if the clinic at Stellies findings are published in the mag, it would give us, the plebs, an idea where they want to change the laws etc.

Plus the minutes of the exec meeting of SARFU would also be nice! (“,) That would really let us see what Oregan is on and where SARFU are taking us (if anywhere)!

I would still like to see something about the inclusion of Argnetina into the tri-nations and a combined islands team (like we played against 2 years ago). Make it the 5 nations. That would be an excellent tournament and everyone would have to travel all over the world making it quite fare to all sides!

Now those three things in the mag would really open the floor for debate. Anyway, some of my ideas. Use ‘em, don’t use ‘em.

    P.S. Loved Tsotsi’s comment in comment 1!

The Schalk Burger column is beyond comprehension. Inane drivel in two words. If you insist on getting the views of a famous father why not get them from somebody with something insightful to impart.

I remain concerned that the mag is too compliant and sychophantic towards players that consistently underperform and an administration that does work and a whole structure that lacks professionalism.

If that is the price of getting interviews with people in SA rugby its a price not worth paying. Is the magazine editorially independent?

I would hazard that to both increase circulation and to make a journal to be proud of the magazine needs to tackle the factors holding back rugby in this country. Year on year of failure in S12, the pathetic Currie Cup and the woeful performances of the Boks in the professional era seem not just to be ignored but glossed over.

This magazine could be so much more. Lets make it happen!

    StMichel

I expected something a bit more original from you.

Bok performances discussed in detail and certainly not glossed over in our Dec/Jan issue. Verdict of 68 percent (NOT GOOD ENOUGH) and certainly put into perspective.

S14 in the last issue … certainly a topic not shied away from … killing our players

Currie Cup is two months away and one as aware as you StMichel should appreciate the immediacy of any title (focus on what is going on).

Game’s administration … Regan Hoskins has been in power for a month. What exactly can he say? Any interview with him now would be superficial and would lack any credibility; hence none has been done.

Black player issue, investigated in great detail last year.

On Schalk, if his column is beyond comprehension, how would you describe your attempts at prose on this site? And would inane aptly describe your comments that followed?

By the way Schalk speaks highly of you too.

    And StMichel

For one as informed as you I am surprised you haven’t attempted the quiz?

You’re reminding us a bit more of England by the day. Talk a great game, but the delivery is on par with Eskom’s power supply in Cape Town.

  • 18.StMichel: Reply to this comment

Bravo Keo. I will take that as a suitable fillip.

I will tackle the quiz. I once appeared on Blockbusters in my school days, a British television quiz show. I won an episode, £105 in gift vouchers and the envy of my classmates. (I lost the following programme to two buck-teethed twins from Cheltenham Ladies College. Who’d have thought?

And lets leave England out of this. Its a low blow and an easy score. Of the previous champions only SA in the 2 years after their Amateur WC win in ’95 have matched England’s disappointing run so I realise how low they have sunk.

I was reminded the other day that the failure of SA teams in the S12/14 was due in no small measure to the unfair overseas leg they face. I was reminded of this as I watched the Aussie cricket team complete a white-wash, against the Proteas away from home. And I wonder why this travel thing only affects SA rugby players? Now that is just the sort of line you need to take. Do not accept the usual excuses my dear fellow.

By the way I genuinely like the mag!

The magazine is GREAT. The 4 cover concept is brilliant. I really like to see the players “crib” as it were, its nice to see where they stay, last months one on Johan Roets was also great. I particulary enjoyed the article on player agents, it was a great read, and gives you something to think about. I really enjoyed the article on Andre Snyman, as we South Africans I think had ‘forgotten’ about him. A good idea would maybe to feature a SA overseas player each month. When I buy the magazine, I cant wait to read the Nick Mallett colum first. I love the ‘technical’ aspect / analysis, especially from Nick. All the colour glossy pics are also really great.
Academy kids, can they pass both ways was also brilliant. When Toks vd Linde and Kobus Wiese interviewed Rob Louw on there TV show, Rob said he is teaching his son 2 things 1] To pass the ball equally well both ways 2] To sidestep off both feet. This advice to Rob came from Ian MacIntosh. So to read an article like this is BRILLIANT.
The magazine is a great read, and besides maybe previewing a SA player, playing overseas each month, I really cant think of anything else to improve the magazine.

The magazine is awesome … managing to get a picture of Hougaard passing is a rarity and should be praised and applauded. It’s right up there with getting a current picture of Osama Bin Laden printed.

Ryk’s “Dream Team” resembles something more along the line of the type of Dream you’ll find at the check-out counter at pick ‘n pay.
Anyway that’s why he’s a swimmer and not a Bok couch!!
Article idea, why don’t you ask Minki v/d westhuizen about her Dream XV and someone please remind her that it’s about rugby.
