SA U19 coach Eugene Eloff could not explain his side’s horrific showing in the opener of the U19 World Championships in Dubai.
Speaking after his chargers succumbed 42-3 to France, a side that finished fourth in last year’s competition, Eloff admitted his side was never in the game.
“We made far too many basic errors. We allowed ourselves to be dominated in every aspect of the game and never got out of the starting blocks,” Eloff told the media.
“The guys are all bitterly disappointed because they know how much this team means to so many people back home. We are by no means out, but we realise that we have left ourselves with a mountain to climb because we must still face Samoa and England.”
The Baby Boks take on Samoa on Sunday, but even if they win their remaining two fixtures their progression to the semi-finals is dependant on other top sides slipping up.
