Cheetahs coach Rassie Erasmus has no doubt the Brumbies are Australia’s best team.
Erasmus’s Cheetahs have beaten the Western Force in a Perth pre-season friendly and beaten the Reds in Bloemfontein. A fortnight ago the Waratahs hammered the Cheetahs 26-3, but took an eternity to break down the Cheetahs defence. On Saturday the Brumbies dazzled the Cheetahs with a 53-20 win, scoring seven tries to two.
Erasmus had no hesitation in telling the media who he thought would win the biggest Australian clash of the year this weekend: “Definitely the Brumbies,” said Erasmus. “When the Brumbies get going, they have so many different playmakers and all can definitely break the line. I really rate them – even above the Waratahs.”
Erasmus suffered his most comprehensive defeat as coach of the Cheetahs in Canberra and it was also here where he was on the receiving end as a player. The Brumbies beat Laurie Mains’s Cats 64-0 after they had won back-to-back matches in New Zealand for the first time ever. Erasmus played in that game.
No wonder he’s saying Brumbies, Brumbies and more Brumbies.
Gregan and Larkham toyed with his team as a player. Now they’ve done the same with the team he coaches.
