Dlulane atones for Hurricane howler
11 Apr 2006
Tim Dlulane’s disastrous cameo against the Hurricanes in an earlier round of the Vodacom Super 14 has been forgotten in the wake of his dogged display against the Chiefs on Saturday.
Beeld quotes statistics from Bulls defence coach John MacFarland showing Dlulane’s tackle count for the weekend stood at an impressive 24, the most by any Bulls player this season.
The Bulls currently lie in fifth after the draw, and victory against the rubble Reds is a necessity if they wish to kindle semi-final aspirations.
“We’re doing well to remain fifth on the log, but we also know that we’ll have to produce a consistent high level of play in the five remaining matches.”
Referring to the Reds, McFarland says they would return to Australia with a lot of self-confidence after their victory over the Cats at Ellis Park on Saturday.
“Just like we would like to end our tour on a high note, they would like to celebrate their return home with a victory.
“We’re doing well to remain fifth on the log, but we also know that we’ll have to produce a consistent high level of play in the five remaining matches,” MacFarland said.
“Just like we would like to end our tour on a high note, they would like to celebrate their return home with a victory.
“We’ll have to play very well if we want to beat them.”
Meanwhile MacFarland would not commit whether Jaco van der Westhuyzen would start in Brisbane, but an injury to Johan Roets means his inclusion at fullback is more likely than at flyhalf.
“We haven’t really talked about our starting lineup, because it’s important to get clarity about the injuries of Roetsie, Morne and Derick and also establish how ready Jaco is to play Super 14 rugby.”

Perhaps the Bulls ought to create a brand-new position for their quota players. Scrap the flankers and create an “inside wing” and an “outside wing”.
An “Outside Wing” on each side of the ball-park should keep those quotas out of too much trouble while the inside wingers can do the real work (well, whenever that once in a million years chance comes around that that the Bulls flyhalf spreads the ball out wide.)

Jeepers Tackler, such wisdom, such insight. We are really lucky to have your comments on this site.

Yep. I’m going to have to charge you money soon for these wise insights of mine!

Just let it go tackles … nice and easy now … don’t fight it … you don’t want SA (you do make us wonder about that though by constantly being here) … and beautiful SA definitly does not want you.

The quota system doing a good job again of putting below par players in the Super 12

Dlulane did really well. I for one was not convinced about his selection. Well, he played so good that I can not see him being left out of the team. Also believe that this loose trio is the best combination. Still think that JC is ****** though, but at least his getting better….

Dlulane would be very lucky to make a NZ Division 3 representative team. Possibly Buller-Westland.

Dlulane was good on Saturday, solid on defence and contested well at the break-down, the loose trio combination did well, no reason why he should not be selected to face the Rubble Reds. Well done Tim.

And Thabo Mbeki is the obvious choice to play at hooker for the 2007 RWC Bok team….
Get real.

Duiker what was the score Bulls vs Lowlanders ?
11 Apr 2006, 09:02 am
Richy McCaw was given the Freedom of NZ by their prime minister after making 25 tackles in a match.
Tim, well done, play like that everymatch .

TD and PW had excellent games. Even JC looked better now that he has moved to flank. I reckon PS could take the place of JC and then the bulls problem with their loose trio would be solved for a while
P.S. **** you tackles

perhaps the reason the loosies had a good game was that te game was a lot looser than previous bulls outings. there was actually work for loosies to do, out near the centres and wings, coz the ball got there.
i have to say, that i saw the bulls vs chiefs replay and was flabagasted by the bulls intentions to swing the ball and show what they can do with ball in hand.
agree TD made improvements on his hurricanes performance, maybe if he gets more game time, he mite have some talent to show off.
Pedrie had a F#$%ing blinder at number 8. pedrie played number 8 through school and early rep days,,,perhaps heyneke should play him there more often. was so good to see him sprinting the ball up into contact.
think JC is not fit enough for 40min, perhaps make the Spies change at half time, then bulls have dynamic loose trio.
hope the bulls can play this kind of rugby on a regular occasion. ie all the time!!!

Tim played very well and was also more dicsiplined(spelling?) than his previous games.
I still believe that JC should make way for Spies.
I wached the Vodacom game on friday night against bb and eagles. Derick Kuun had a stormer!!
I hope he gets his chance in this year CC since the boks won’t play cc this year.
I can imagine a loostrio next year S14 of
8 P3
7 Spies
6 Kuun
AWESOME!!!!!!
My ideal bulls team at this mo and to end this season would be:
15. Jaco
14. Akona
13. Frikkie Welsh
12. WO
11. Habana
10. Steyn
9. Fourie- hy beter sy sokkies optrek
8. P3
7. Spies
6. Tim
5. Vic
4. Bakkies
3. Andries
2. Gary
1. Engels

Well done Tim. Now the best way to shut your detractors mouths is to continue with the good work.

Ah shame, poor old Tackles is crapping himself.
That jealous streak of his is about a mile wide.
Come now Tackler, face the inevitable. The greatest athletes in professional sport are all black.
The NBA, NFL and The Olympics prove you and your outmoded racist ideas to be wrong. Pity NZ has no Africans with melanin as you like to put it.

well now…that does make for interestig reading, not only a rare draw for the Bulls away from home, but Dlulane makes 24 tackles, a huge number of tackles, more than any other Bulls player the entire season.
I’m sure no other SA flanker even came close.
Would some of you bulle like to recant your kak from the previous week?
11 Apr 2006, 11:51 am
Dulane is nothing special. He is not big, he is not fast. He is not strong!
He is just a quota player!!! For once I agree with Tackler! There is no way his selection can be justified ahead of Burger, Van Nickerk, Van Heerden, Watson, etc.
Heck I would even consider Roussow before Dulane!
11 Apr 2006, 12:02 pm
Dlulane is a specialist fetcher, he is not competing with Rossouw or Van Heerden.
He performs a specialist role. I am not advocating he should be a bok, merely that the Bulls backrow lack balance. Plenty power, but what of workrate. Dlulane is very atheltic, doubt whether even P3 can match him in a race. Perhaps Spies, but Spies is an 8th man not a fetcher, does’nt know the position.
11 Apr 2006, 12:22 pm
Go Cab Go. You may not convert the snothorns but at least you give it a good shot.
Bulls need the balance of Tim D & just to consider the alternative style of rugby by running into gaps. If Tim D can provide quicker ball to the thundering hooves, they might even look multi dimensional for a change.
11 Apr 2006, 14:05 pm
Cab agree 100% you put it perfectly! The Bulls backrow is all fine if you want to crash and bash all day but who is gonna do the dirty stuff and win back the ball? Even if Dlulane doesn’t play they still need a specialist fetcher.
11 Apr 2006, 17:40 pm
Look at you boys getting all toey because a saffa flanker made a huge x amount of tackles…
Perhaps if posession wasn’t continuously gifted away and the backs could actually show some ingenuity in attack, it would have been the Chiefs loosies doing all the tackling.
Stats schmats!

Good on you Tim!
