De Kock gets his chance

Neil de Kock starts only his second match of the Vodacom Super 14 on Saturday. Coach Kobus van der Merwe has included De Kock as one of four changes to his backline that bumbled against the Blues.

De Kock replaces Bolla Conradie after the latter’s form has tailed off after an impressive beginning to the season.

As predicted on this week, Tonderai Chavhanga gets an opportunity at fullback in a back three high on pace but defensively frail.

Joe van Niekerk returns as Van der Merwe is able to name his first choice back row for the first time in 10 weeks, and Ross Skeate replaces Gerrie Britz and not Andries Bekker.

Bekker’s performance against the Blues was his biggest of the season.

Schalk Brits captains the side from the front row, whilst ousted skipper De Wet Barry retains a spot on the bench.
