Relief for Stormers

There was some good news for the Stormers on Thursday. The Chiefs man mountain Sione Lauaki will not play on Saturday and there won’t be a start for openside specialist Marty Holah.

In a role reversal, the Stormers will field their strongest loose-trio of the season in Joe van Niekerk, Schalk Burger and Luke Watson, while the Chiefs line-up their most vulnerable looking combination with Bay of Plenty flanker Nili Latu to start alongside Sevens specialist Liam Messam.

The dangerous Chiefs backline remains the same, with Byron Kelleher again at NO 9 and Mils Muliaina at fullback to accommodate Niva Ta’auso out outside centre. Sam Tuitupou also plays after there were fitness doubts.

CHIEFS: 15 Mils Muliaina, 14 Sosene Anesi, 13 Niva Ta’auso, 12 Sam Tuitupou, 11 Sitiveni Sivivatu, 10 Stephen Donald, 9 Byron Kelleher; 8 Steven Bates, 7 Nili Latu, 6 Liam Messam, 5 Bernie Upton, 4 Jono Gibbes (c), 3 Ben Castle, 2 Tom Willis, 1 Simms Davison. Subs: 16 Aleki Lutui, 17 Nathan White, 18 Sean Hohneck, 19 Marty Holah, 20 Jamie Nutbrown, 21 Anthony Tahana, 22 Loki Crichton.
