Former Springbok and Wallaby loose-forward Tiaan Strauss and his family are fine and were not involved in a car accident this weekend, SA Rugby spokesman Rayaan Adriaanse has confirmed.
It was learnt by this site that Strauss and his family had been involved in an horrific car accident in Gauteng at the weekend and that one of his children had died in the incident.
“I can confirm that that is not true,” Adriaanse told keo.co.za. “Tiaan is currently in China and his family is in Germany. Andy Marinos (SA Rugby’s manager of national teams) is a good friend of the family and just spoke to Tiaan in China. He was quite upset that a rumour like that was started.”
Strauss has returned to South Africa after a stint in Australia, where he qualified to play for the Wallabies and won the 1999 World Cup, after missing out on the 1995 tournament.
“We know that he relocated to South Africa from Australia last November and wanted to settle again in South Africa,” Adriaanse said.
