Ludeke’s axe falls … again

Cats coach Frans Ludeke is expected to axe Wayne Julies, Willem Stoltz, Marius Hurter and Gerhard Vosloo from his match 22 to face the Bully Boys in the Vodacom Super 14 on Saturday.

Suparugby predicts that Ludeke’s disgust at his team’s performance will lead to the catalogue of changes, a situation some would interpret as yet another feeble gesture to galvanise a beaten side.

The cruel injury blow to Ashwin Willemse means that Wylie Human’s inclusion is enforced. Doppies la Grange and Grant Esterhiuzen will form perhaps the most impotent midfield this season, and Trevor Hall will be asked to play flank.

Daniel Muller returns from Vodacom Cup anonymity, and somehow Pietman van Niekerk retains his spot at loosehead prop over Springbok Lawrence Sephaka.

The moves are out of desperation, a literal last throw of the dice grounded in hope and not reason.
