Brown baits Bulls

Brown baits Bulls

Tony Brown believes the Sharks are the best South African side in the Vodacom Super 14 this year.

“The Sharks have always been the best SA team, and it is no different this year,” Brown told the Sharks website. “We are playing the best style of rugby, and probably have the best players as well. We still have to play a few other South African sides, and those will be tough games, but hopefully we can prove we are the best side in South Africa.”

While the Sharks match against the Bulls at Loftus on 29 April will probably decide the SA Super 14 “champion”, Brown is fully focused on the Blues clash in Durban on Saturday.

“The Blues are a funny side,” he said. “They have a team full of superstars; some days everything goes their way and they can score 50 points; other days nothing goes their way and they can get beaten by the weaker teams, so you never know what to expect with them. This weekend will be tough and hopefully we can do the job. It’s always good to run out in front of a big crowd, so hopefully the Durban people get behind us.”

The New Zealander said it was great to be heading into the business end of the Super 14 with a chance of reaching the semi-finals.

“You don’t want to head into the second half of the campaign knowing that you can’t make the semis,” he says. “It’s obviously a big game this weekend and I think whichever side wins this game, will probably go to fifth on the log, and probably be the team that will push the Brumbies.”

Ja Tony when Bakkies wipes his arse off on you we shall talk again.

How can this New Zealander tell us that the Sharks have always been the best SA union, Where has he bee for the last few years….. oh wait, Not in south Africa. it would be great to see a good game between the Sahrks and the Bulls, but for some reason i just cant see the Bulls losing, there to physically dominating, and when in SA Habana Becomes an extremely large asset that may single handedly screw the Banana boys.

Lets just hope we dont a **** result like a draw, that could screw both teams campaigns!!

FutureB I think he would be in quite a good position to comment as he has played against all our sides. Also we will have to see how the “interceptor” goes when he has to stay in his channel to defend wide.

Tony wasn’t around a year ago when the Shorks weren’t good enough to beat the Spears. The Durban sea breeze brings with it delusions of grandeur….

In terms of an overall perspective, Brown is right, the Sharks have been the best SA side. They are, after all, the only side to have reached a final in the Super 12. They have also regularly made the semis and been the best away side.

I’m sure Brown is speaking from this perspective rather than what happened last year.

  • 6.CSI:Rugby: Reply to this comment

From outside perspective, it is clear to us that the Sharks are the best SA team in the S14, but then I have to say that as my wife is standing right next to me.

    Ian,

You’ll get nowhere trying to explain this to the fools on this site. Brown doesn’t have blinkers on like our one-eyed SA supporters.

  • 8.BlueBlood: Reply to this comment

Being the best SA side doesn’t say much, considering how pathetic the rest are. Just because you’re the best of the **** doesn’t mean you aren’t ****.

Played 9 won 4. Stop smoking the poison, you’re not good. You are useless.

yeah and u guys havnt beaten us yet and we been playing bad and we still ontop so weeeeee

  • 10.robdylan: Reply to this comment

Brown was simply saying that historically, the Sharks are viewed as the top SA side (two finals, four semis). The Bulls by contrast played in just two semis, in 1996 and 2005. There was no reference to the Bulls, and in any case, he is certainly not going to sing the praises of another side, while playing for the Sharks is he? Unless he was referring to the Bulls of 2002 – Played 11 lost 11. Conceded 500 points that year (the most ever in the history of the tournament). Or the 1998 Bulls – lost 8/11, second last. Or maybe the 1999 Bulls, Played 11, lost 10, position – last. 2000 Bulls, Won one, came second last.

No, once again a sensationalist headline to an article you simply pilfered off another website. Par for the course for Keo.

Amazingly objective comments from the blue boys here. You guys sure put Brown in his place!

    Yesssss

They are the best team this year but not over the last couple of seasons , where have you been Mr Brown ? Lots of tallent and looking forward to the South African durbies.

Brown is 100% right. That is not baiting – it is stating a fact. If you look at consistency over the past 10 years of super rugby – sharks our best team by some margin.

this year they are playing a far better brand of rugby than ANY other SA side.

Mmmm, The Sharks had their golden years, but the last 2 years belonged to the bulls, but I am happy to see the Sharks are back in bussiness, Any South African side playing well, is good news…I think the sharks can do my Bulls team at Loftus, but if the Bulls click………..

  • 16.yoda: Reply to this comment

The sharks had their best decade ever during the 90′s(but after that not a whole lot to write home about), and yes, they have had the most success in the S12. But this is the S14, and only time will tell if they will be our best side in times to come. It does look promising, especially when one looks at the youngsters coming through their ranks.

Tony, I dont think that is a very wise comment, usually it is not the best thing to talk yourself up when playing the bulls(except cc final 2005), as they tend to concentrate a bit more, and that is when they score 70+ points against you…

I think the bulls will win this game, and I really hope its a very good game. SA teams owe us as supporters that at least.

  • 17.Predawn: Reply to this comment

Tony Brown quite obviously knows what he’s talking about.

  • 18.Ben M: Reply to this comment

Agree yoda, of course Im hoping that the Sharks pulverise you guys, but the most important thing is that all SA players look good, like Fourie did in the losing Cats side last week. Lets not forget that enemy number one is the blerry uitlanders.

    Ian, post 5. Spot on.

With regars the s12 / s14 the facts dont lie.

Bulls and Stormers can gnash there teeth as much as they like they just dont have a leg to stand on.

Tony’s comments go a long way towards explaining the kiwi attitude to SA teams in the S12/ S14 and who they regard as being the more demanding team to play against. Clearly the Sharks are the team that they respect the most.

  • 20.Ben M: Reply to this comment

Cant we get a decent Sharks article? After all, we have a glimmer of hope and are facing the Blues. I mean we even have an article on Hendro Scholtz!

  • 21.TigerShark: Reply to this comment

Whats more, we have also seen that (as much as we dont like it) the Currie Cup is a competition that has very little value or quality associated with it.

A return to strength v strength is a must.

  • 22.TigerShark: Reply to this comment

    Ben, agreed.

We seem to hear all about what Fester and his inbred family down in the fairest Cape are up to and next to nothing about the Sharkies.

Maybe thats just a typical SA attitude though. We seem to love focusing on the negative. The cup is always half emtpy…

This weekend Rawlinson (if fit) will be playing against his old chums again. No doubt the Kiwis will move fast to cap him as he must have qualified by now. Wonder if Jake is still interested in him.

Man, I really hate it when we talk about the ‘best’ team in SA! If our ‘best’ team finishes 5th it’s not really anything to crow about!! Even losing in the semi’s is k@k… Unttil the day we actauly win the Super14 we are ALL ****! Diffrent layers but all ****… And before anybody comes and states the obvious, I know the Cats are the k@kest…

  • 25.Redox: Reply to this comment

Brown is correct Sharks are the best sa side at the moment considering how early they are in their development the amount of young players without super series experience they are playing they shouldnt be though.

  • 26.Drunkmonkey: Reply to this comment

They musnt forget we got a white left wing

  • 27.cab: Reply to this comment

fantastic stuff from Tony, he’s getting right into the spirit of things, should be a cracker at loftus.

  • 28.Drunkmonkey: Reply to this comment

yeah build it up another derby where sharks gonna be exposed for the tadpoles

  • 29.yoda: Reply to this comment

And when tony leaves, and butch gets injured again? What then? Percy is almost done, so he wont cover flyhalf for too long. With ruan at 10 last year they had a shocker. baritt is a good player, but I reckon he is a 12

What i’m saying is that the sharks are all raving about the next few years, and I would be too if i was a sharkie, but you have to remember that all their good play started with the arrival of the mr. brown

    Jou bek is groot Brown.
Die bulle sal hom toemaak op Loftus.
Ek hoop Hougaard of Jaco speel teen jou.

  • 31.Bluecap: Reply to this comment

The Oil Beach boys certainly know how to pat themselves on the back, if it gave them log points they’d be first.
The Blues are gonna take them to the cleaners.

  • 32.munkiboi: Reply to this comment

gotta agree with Tony. Sharks are the faint glimmer of hope in an otherwise dark and gloomy S14.

  • 33.Shosoloza: Reply to this comment

    Fokkof Tony,

GO Tony —–Stir up those Bully Boys, Get under their skin.

Sorry just joking—Roddylan comments quite right. Keo.co blowing quite normal comments out of proportion. What do you expect him to say about the franchise that’s paying his not inconsiderable wagers. (when compared to mine that is)

I just re-read Brown’s comment, still cant find what it is that got the Bulls goat so bad. As someone pointed out, no SA team has bragging rights really, so are you guys fighting for the right to be called the least **** of a **** lot? LMAO!

  • 37.Ben M: Reply to this comment

Right you are CoffeeshopBok, its amazing how tightly wound some people are.

  • 38.Cape Shark: Reply to this comment

The headline should have read Brown baits Bulls supporters. All brown said was that the sharks have always been the best sa side. Stats don’t lie guys!!! Nowhere did it say anything about the Bulls. The Bulls over the last 10 years have been the kakest side full stop. Even if we look at the season, forget about current log positions, the super 14 isn’t over yet guys, the Bulls WILL NOT END THE S14 AS THE TOP SA SIDE!! The Bulls will beat the Kitties, lose to the Sharks, lose to the Crusaders and lose to the stormers, that means they will get a maximum of another 5 or 6 points.

Can you imagine if the Bulls had had the Sharks draw. these guys leave thswane and they turn to putty. Imagine if they were away from mommy and daddy (sorry ma en pappie) for 5 weeks!!!

Bully boys is such an apt discription of these weazles. They are bullies when playing with the small boys on the playground, but when someone dares take them on they turn to putty, shame!!!

And yes I have grown to dislike the Bulls and their supporters immensly. The ironic thing is they moan about arrogant Sharks supporters, but they do well in one s12 season and boy does everyone know about it. At least we didn’t lose to the rubble reds when they had to fly half way accross the world. They also had the best draw and are only one position above the next SA side. Makes you think!!!

go sharks go bulls, vir die week ten minste

  • 42.Panstoffel: Reply to this comment

It’s a pity a Kiwi has to come to SA to show our fly halves to play. And now he is telling us who our best S14 team is. I think he is right, but as it stands any SA team would do in the semis.

  • 43.sean: Reply to this comment

    well said cape shark

Anybody still arguing that bulls have been better than the sharks this year just because of log position is either very stupid or very ignorant !!
Bulls lost to the Reds for sh*ts sakes !
Look at the bulls tour versus the sharks
Sharks met the top 4 sides and had a little trip to the house of pain over 5 weeks, and were more than competitive in every game ! Bulls struggle against the farce, get done by the Blues and lose to the australian version of the cats !

    Stan,
what the f*ck is Hougaard gonna do against Brown ? hardly reckon he’s quivering in his boots about that possible matchup !

  • 44.kustnjf1: Reply to this comment

To all the Blue Bulls supporters – remember that every team goes through a high and a low. You are quick to mention the low that the Sharks recently went through, but are quick to forget the low that the Bulls went through not so long ago. In all fairness, the Sharks have been the most successful SA side in the Super competition – the results speak for themselves. Remember that Tony Brown has only ever played against SA sides at national and Super level. He can therefore only rate SA sides on their Super and national performances. Thus, rightfully so, in his opinion, the Sharks are the best SA side.
