Grant gets green light

Stormers coach Kobus van der Merwe has handed jersey 10 to Peter Grant and shifted Jean de Villiers to the wing, whilst Crusaders counterpart Robbie Deans has rested Richie McCaw, Dan Carter and Leon MacDonald for their Vodacom Super 14 clash on Saturday.

Van der Merwe explained his reasonings to keo.co.za behind De Villiers’ shift yesterday, and intimated that Grant had impressed sufficiently in his 30 minute cameo against the Reds to deserve a starting berth.

Naas Olivier has worn jersey 10 for the last four matches.

Neil de Kock has recovered sufficiently from injury to reclaim a starting position after his immense display against the Chiefs.

Joe Pietersen gets another shot at fullback and the 2004 Tri-Nations winning centre combination of De Wet Barry and Marius Joubert play in tandem for the first time this year.

The pack is unchanged but for Ross Skeate’s expected return to the second row in place of Gerrie Britz.

Meanwhile the Crusaders have rested their three biggest names. Carter and MacDonald are named on the bench, but McCaw is left out out of the match 22.

Johnny Leo’o starts as opensider, with Cameron McIntyre and Scott Hamilton the replacements for Carter and MacDonald respectively.

    Stormers to win!
Their selection is in a stark violation of the quota numbers but then, they stand a chance in Newlands now, hope an early exit of Andrews will compound a good line up ehich they haven’t enjoyed since 2003 season

I like Grant, his big draw back is that there is no fifth gear, and maybe not even a fourth gear in there either.

One of the many things that makes Carter so good is that when he accelarates he can make those half gaps while grant is a flipping cart horse.

If he had to get a yard or two of pace he would be an awesome player.
