Crusaders captain Richie McCaw, who was carried off the field after colliding with Richard Bands last year, is in no hurry to resume relations with the Bulls.
McCaw missed his side’s shock defeat to the Stormers at Newlands last week, but coach Robbie Deans said the All Black flank is “no certainty” to play at Loftus on Saturday.
“Most people expect it’s a given, but it’s not necessarily the case,” Deans told the Christchurch Press Newspaper. “He’s clearly benefited from his rest, and we may yet give him another week to make sure he’s right rather than bring him back a little bit early.”
Deans said McCaw had a big workload in front of him. “It’s going to be important to us, in coming home, to have fresh people.”
Deans will confirm his starting line-up later on Wednesday, but it would be a major surprise if Dan Carter and Leon MacDonald are not recalled. Outside back Scott Hamilton, who suffered a shin injury against the Stormers, is “coming right, but is still doubtful” according to the coach.
