Watson’s on the whistle
4 May 2006
Andre Watson has vowed to make his South African referees more accountable by formalising post-match referee press conferences.
Watson, South Africa’s best referee until his retirement a season ago, heads up the South African referees portfolio and he confirmed that referees would front the media in this season’s Currie Cup competition.
Watson added that he wanted the system to be introduced in Super 14, but that New Zealand and Australia were not supportive. He felt getting referees to face the media would take perception out of the equation and give the referee a platform in which to explain decisions.
Go Wattie!

That’ll last about 1 game

Of course Australia and New Zealand aren’t keen on it, their refs are cheats!!

Linston Manuels confirmed his incompetence in Chettahs-Bluea games by making wrong decision on line-out law and only a help from Doug Howlet led to the decision to became within the rugby laws.

Ig, when are you going to update the schools section?

About time, the standard of reffing in this country is not good, which is one of the reasons why we get blown up on the international front so often.

this is a silly idea. there is far too much emotion following matches, and the ref is on a iding to nothing.
i’d prefer it if they judged the ref more efficiently, and made them fully paid professionals.

Agree with Muniboi can u imagine what would have happened to kaplan after the cc final and he didnt even have a bad game. and what about the young refs it may drive people away from refereing
Also perhaps the ozzies and the new zealanders dont arent so clever linston manuels was the linesman in the crusaders vs force game.

think this is a good idea, the refs have been hiding for too long

brilliant idea, Go Watson, this initiative would totally change the super series for a much better one. I can’t see the reason for why nz and australia don’t want this. and it can’t be that they fear that their refs are kak, maybe apart from some aussie ones, and definitely linston will be out.

How could you possibly make ignorat clowns such as Manuels and Fortune accountable?
Or does Watson intend to take it on the anc? THAT will never happened

Onlooker
Wit refs maak net nie foute nie, reg?
Bruin refs is die enigste ‘clowns’ in rugby, reg.
Jy moet wakker word!

manuels is a joke, but onlooker, ehmm Fortune, are you talking about Fortuin? ignorant twat, fortuin is a good ref, so next time think twice before talking such kak.
4 May 2006, 21:17 pm
Can he make the Aussies more accountable?
5 May 2006, 07:23 am
Refs should be accountable to the game (give them regular performance reviews) not to the fans. We are the ones to judge them. They get far too much TV time anyway. We come to see they other 30 jokers on the paddock.

Is there a possibility that we can have a referee from either Australia or New Zealand officiating in our Currie Cup final as they do in their countries domestic rugby finals.I know New Zealand in their NPC finals got a ref. from England! We should consider this! We all know our local rugby CC final is rigged! Can somebody help out here please?
