Australia captain George Gregan has picked up a one-week suspension for a dangerous tackle during the Brumbies’ Super 14 match against the Highlanders on Saturday.
Sanzar confirmed in a statement on Monday that the nuggety scrumhalf would miss the final round-robin match against the Crusaders in Christchurch, Reuters reported. The Canberra-based side need one point to make sure of a place in the semi-finals.
It is good news for SA rugby fans, especially those from the Sharks and Bulls, who will be hoping the Brumbies lose with getting any bonus points and their respective teams score runnaway victories to possibly slip in the back door.
A judicial committee for the controlling body of southern hemisphere rugby found the 33-year-old Gregan guilty of an illegal tackle on Highlanders’ Richard Kahui, but his exemplary disciplinary record reduced the length of the suspension.
