Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer has promoted Francois van Schouwenburg to his starting XV for Saturday’s Vodacom Super 14 match against the Stormers, with Bok Bakkies Botha among the substitutes.
Van Schouwenburg has been used as an impact player up until now, usually replacing Botha midway through the second half.
In the only other change to the Bulls side crushed by the Crusaders last weekend, Springbok Bryan Habana replaces the unlucky Akona Ndungane on the right wing. Just what Ndungane has done wrong is anyone’s guess. Frikkie Welsh has somehow managed to move ahead of the dreadlocked winger in the pecking order and has also been given Habana’s preferred No 11 jersey.
Depending on what happens in Christchurch and Durban, the Bulls could still have a chance of reaching the semi-finals come 5pm on Saturday. However, they will need to thrash the Stormers by a substantial margin in order to improve their points difference. The Bulls beat the Stormers 75-14 at Loftus last year, so it can be done.
