BJ’s Catch 22
16 May 2006
BJ Botha is caught between a rock and a hard place. He may have to postpone his honeymoon because of his Springbok call-up.
Botha and his fiancee Taryn are set to tie the knot on Sunday June 4 – a day after he might play for the Springbok XV against a World XV at Ellis Park.
And if he is included in White’s squad for the Tests against Scotland and France later in June he will have to put the honeymoon on hold. “I’d actually not booked it yet, because I wasn’t sure of my Currie Cup commitments, so it seems to have worked out well,” he told keo.co.za.
“I guess we will have to make a plan after the Currie Cup.” Well, if Botha continues his current rich vein of form he may also be included in the end-of-year tour squad to the United Kingdom, which means the honeymoon may only take place in December.
Botha was included in Jake White’s extended Bok training squad at the weekend and if he continues to impress the national selectors he may be in the squad for the June 3 unnofficial Test.
“That’s not up to me, but obviously it’s a bit of a waiting game now,” Botha, who added he honestly did not expect to be in the original squad, said.
Botha will be in camp in Bloemfontein for the next three weeks, but luckily for the Sharks strongman his wife-to-be, Taryn, has already taken care of most of the wedding arrangements. “The only thing I need to worry about is my speech and I’m quite nervous for that.”
Whatever may happen in the next three weeks, 2006 is sure to be a year to remember in the Botha household.

Face the wrath of missing honeymoon from the future Mrs. Botha or miss out on Bok selection?!?!? Which is the rock and which is the hard place on this one?!?!? Good luck BJ.

Andrew,Gary says in this article that things worked out well because he hasnt booked his honeymoon yet.You go out and claim his is stuck between a rock and a hard lace.Didint take you long to start writing like keo.Ig,the sugar seems to be coming slow this morning.

Exactly CSI.Its simple. If he plays for the Boks it will help his finances a lot.His fiance knows this as well.So they will sit and discuss alternative arrangements so that they will benefit financially in the years to come.**** andrew you must be some hysterical drama queen if you see this scenario as being stuck between a rok and a hard place.

I wonder how much influence John Smit had on the selectors & Jake with the selections of Deon Carstens and BJ Botha?
I am sure they would have asked for his input and recommendations when it came to frontrow players.
16 May 2006, 07:37 am
Truth is, SA’s worst prop will still be a starter elsewhere, thats how deep SA frontrow is.

CSI – could you be talking about Eddie??

Is his wife Afrikaans?

My old man used to tell me that the only excuse for missing rugby practise or a match is a funeral – and that had to be your funeral!!
Weddings need to be arranged around rugby!!!
Good luck BJ – if you compromise now you compromise for the rest of your LIFE – way beyond your playing days!!! Take it from a man who is permanently compromised!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Andrew, do you know what a Catch 22 is?
How do you apply this concept to BJ’s situation?

Note to all single rugby players: If and when you set a wedding date, make sure it’s in December. The rest of the year is for rugby.

Stop trying to catch Andrew out, he is doing his best.
He has to have a catchy headline to get you to read the story, even if it contradicts the contents of the article.

She must be wondering about all this….first his classic prop good looks get scarred the hell out of ,then he gets a damned bok call up…what terrible timing thinks future mrs.spitting mad.
Unless she’s able to ride the gravy train and play the wife of an absentee hubby for many years till he’s all fucked up and retires. But there will be money.
Its her choice to go for the duk rugby dude at the bar. She’ll live by it and if she’s the right type she’ll love all the hobnobbing and drama not to mention a few backline boytjies who might sway her eye.

All it means is that BJ will have to wait a little longer for his BJ.

Why not have the honeymoon in Bloem??? They don’t practice ALL day. 10 min a day is all it takes, 5 on a push…
16 May 2006, 10:32 am
Rudebud I was actually about to say something on those lines… I wonder if BJ will get a BJ on is wedding day?>
16 May 2006, 10:38 am
Bigg
The reason why brides look so radiant on wedding day is the fact that they know they have given their last BJ’s.
16 May 2006, 10:56 am
Rudebud – LOL… Once married all the kinky stuff stops and headaches arrive
16 May 2006, 11:15 am
Does BJ prefer JS as his hooker ? If so he will cancel the honeymoon.

My wife wants to know if rugby keeps you warm at night. If so marry a rugby ball. Her priority is unfortunatly not rugby.
