Morne du Plessis has turned down the role of Springbok manager ahead of next year’s Word Cup.
The Boks arrive in Bloemfontein this week without a manager and it is unclear who will replace Arthob Petersen, who has been in the job since Jake White took over in 2004.
The relationship between White and Petersen has never been as strong as it should be between manager and coach and it is well known that White favoured having Du Plessis on board to relieve a lot of the pressure.
Du Plessis, approached by SARU, could not commit to the schedule and declined the request.
The search continues, even though Petersen has not officially been told he is no longer required. However, the fact that the Boks have assembled without a manager does not point to a great start to the international season.
